Ok...something is obviously missing...try to put .zip on end of the PC36IMG file and flash it via recovery
. This should allow you to put that rom on your phone and then you can move on to the next step.
I'm getting the same message.Negative. When trying to flash the recovery, the following message appears:
Install from SD card...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/pc36IMG.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
Edit: Tried removing the .zip extension and still no dice.
I am getting the same error. I rooted using unrevoked3, from a stock Evo with the latest OTA update. The message I get when I try to load the PC36IMG the first time is as follows Main version is older! Update fail!

I believe I have found what is missing. I've added it to step 1-7...everything else is the same...someone want to give a it a go?

I've tried the new steps but still getting this message.
Were you able to flash the mtd-eng.zip?
Ditto...same message I'm getting.Just to clarify for everyone, and for s & g's, I just got finished re-SimpleRooting my phone. After getting to step 4, and rebooting, same thing:
Main Version is older!
Update Fail!
Do you want to reboot device?
<VOL UP> Yes
<VOL DOWN> No
So, it has been established that re-rooting will not resolve this issue.
P.S. The HBoot still shows 0.79.0000
Tattr, I do appreciate all you've been doing to help us get past this issue.

For add'l insight, when I tried to Flash RA_Recovery via SimpleRoot, this is what I rec'd:
Ditto...same message I'm getting.
Question...if you Simple Rooted weeks ago...why do you have still have .79 HBOOT? Did you update and then use unrevoked?
Well I tried it again and it finally took. I think I had an old PC36IMG still on my storage card that was screwing things up. I'm good to go now and have Cyanogen's release candidate up and running. Thank you everyone for your help!HBOOT won't change until after you actually get the PC36IMG from the Simple Root to take. The Recovery is installed as well with the PC36IMG as well. All's Simple root does is use the Flash exploit to allow you to go back to an older version...which is what gets push at the beginning. I just followed the steps through Simple Root and as if I weren't already rooted and it came out perfect.
