What do you guys think of this. Do you by using the EVO mobile hotspot for internet access for long periods of time, would kill the phone faster due to heat? I know a few people that may cancel their home internet and use the phones 4G for their home internet. Possible?

I seriously doubt it.

I dont think the evo is suitable for a home internet connection though.
1. It will need to be permanently plugged in and so not mobile.
2. there are no specs related to firewalls... a key ingredient in a home router
3. if you do online gaming, the ping will be higher than DSL or cable..
4. not to mention if you go out everyone else loses their connection!

for me the hotspot feature is an occasional use type of thing..not 24*7

Well in my case my wife and me would each have one. What someone brought up is the unit woud deal with too much heat.

No one can really say if it will heat up enough to cause the life of the EVO to shorten, no one in the public has had any real testing.

.. and like i said.. i seriously doubt it..

With 20yrs in the semiconductor business I can tell you that devices such as this go through massive QA tests running at limits far beyond any rational operational parameters... including running 1000hrs at elevated temperatures.. I would not be concerned... but if you are..simply buy the insurance! :)

Well, who knows if it will get hot? The mifi and the other 4G mobile hotspot devices don't get hot. I've also been able to use my phone to tether without it getting hot, but I have a nice A/C in my car that I used to keep it cold. There is something about the wifi tether app that most phones tend to overheat. Maybe they figured out the issue with the hotspot app?

Well, I am also on macrumors and had someone bring this up in my thread over there. Just thought I would ask. My home internet sucks as of late. If I was to get 4G it would be nice to tether. With that said sometimes I download large files and don't want to damage the device.
