No its a CDMA/LTE handset, the SIM is not a GSM SIM. This phone is like any other VZW phone for now.

isnt there like any possible way for it to work outside?? i mean ... htc hd2 is lame in front of evo =S and the samsung galaxy is too expensive and so is the iphone 4g ... so idk what to do anymore =X

dam...Jordan aint on the dam list =S
can it be hacked or smthin lol xD i really want the dam phone!! =X if not the thunderbolt ... the evo.... cuz hd2 is lame =(
any suggestions on phones other than those 3 and iphone 4g and samsung galaxy ??

One of the world phones like the Droid 2 Global or Droid Pro. There's no hacking to it as the radio just isn't there in the Thunderbolt. Same issue with the Evo. Aside from the 2 world phones I listed, you'd need to get something from AT&T or tmobile.

I was told by the Verizon rep, that once more carriers adopt LTE the phone will work in other countries, as LTE is a GSM based frequency.

My understanding is that this is correct. Eventually, the world carriers are going to offer LTE over other 4G technologies, and we'll see the Thunderbolt able to work in other countries.

For now though, unless you go to a country that already has LTE lit up, your stuck with CDMA countries, and there aren't a ton of those.

The CDMA radio will work in some countries, check this list:
Countries Where Any Verizon Wireless Phone Will Work

Maybe once we go voLTE but you'll still run into problems right now since verizon still uses their cdma network for voice.
