Using the Nexus 7 as an (almost) daily driver

Totally agree! I see people holding them up recording video too, looks ridiculous like you said. Some people think the pic or video will be bigger because they took the pic on a bigger screen.

I find this hysterically funny simply because I was at a graduation and couldn't believe the # of people using iPads to video the event.

At one point, I was asked by someone if I'd help & take her picture of her & son. I thought she was going to pass me a camera or her phone but NO....she handed me her iPad and I felt like a jackass taking the pic.

This is exactly why I am happy the N7 did not come with a rear camera.

Mine fits easily in my jeans pockets but I can't imagine where I'd actually use it, other than McDonald's you never anybody here using anything but phones in public.

Re: .

I take it with me, but I haven't tethered it to my GS3 yet. I get a lot of questions about it; one woman even said she was ordering one when she got home, she was so impressed by it. Google needs to keep the momentum going before the 7.8 inch gorilla in the room wakes up and starts its media blitz ...

I always carried my Kindle Fire with me in my bag. On the train, the shuttle on the way to work, the barber shop ... it's a bigger screen, and it's not killing my phone battery. I read ebooks, play games, watch movies, look at websites that I downloaded to look at later ... I love this thing. I don't mind carrying this with me.

What are your u talking about???

Fonts, text, pics... So far everything looks great on mine.

What part didn't you understand ? The fonts on the unit I played with looked terrible. It will take you all of 5 seconds to see that I'm not the only one. That was my only (albeit a show stopper) complaint of the tablet.

Troll perhaps????

I am having no issues whatsoever with the display on my Nexus 7 and I use it all the time.

I actually think the display looks better than my Transformer Prime's display.

Android fanboy perhaps ? I've owned a number of Android phones and currently use the HTC One X as my main phone so dial back the troll carp.

I believe it has the next highest pixel count behind the retina and the transformer infinity, and not by much, like 216 PPI? EVERYTHING on mine looks fantastic. I use both the kindle app and the Google books app. Both look amazing on the N7. Maybe your extensive hands on was with a lemon?

Could very well be. I've read in other places that some devices are not handling gray shading correctly which [could] make fonts look less sharp. One of the sites that reviews Android gadgets complained about the same font issue. Bad batch maybe. Fonts on my One X look considerably better than the Nexus 7 I used yesterday.

I guess I can understand if it was an older person or sight challenged (bigger display is easier for them to see and frame the shot) but yeah, I've never used either cam on mine.

Ok, ok. No trolling in my thread. macguy clearly saw a nexus 7 which was probably part of a bad batch. Now, the nexus 7 has a good screen with a high resolution, but it is a little washed out, especially when compared to my gnexus screen.

Yeah noticed that to. Contrast problem or backlighting ?

It might be a contrast problem, I think it's more that the samoled screen on my gnexus is over saturated. So, I might just be spoiled by it.

Agreed. Comparing to my Gs2's samoled plus screen the n7 does look washed out. So does any other screen you compare to samoled plus displays. It really is not a fair comparison. When I put it next to every other screen I have in the house it looks equally as vibrant with colors or better. It is, however, marginally sharper with text and photos. I think I just got a proper screen in my unit and hopefully more and more people will now that bumps in manufacturing seem to be getting ironed out.

I will add that the samoled plus display looks greenish/bluish when displaying whites, as in when reading the kindle app with white text on black background. The N7 using the same app, same settings, displays a much more true white. Just something I noticed.

This is very true. The nexus 7 is simply displaying more true and natural colors, samoled just has us spoiled for super saturation. :-)

Re: Using the Nexus 7 as a (almost) daily driver

I've seen many articles about editors using the nexus 7 out and about because of its portability and size. So, I was wondering how many users of the nexus 7 actually use it out and about, while at work or in a restaurant. I've been using my nexus 7 in situations where I would normally use my phone. All I have to do is set up my galaxy nexus as a hotspot, for data, and connect my tablet to my phone using tablet talk, so I can text through my nexus 7. The nexus 7 is so portable it can fit in any pocket or small bag and is light enough to carry around. I have hardly used my phone for browsing and the like since I bought my nexus 7. So I'm curious to know if any other people have pretty much used their nexus 7 as a daily diver, using their phone every now and then to make calls.

Glad I'm not the only one who does that ;)

I love that its so small and portable!!! It even fits into the front pocket of some of my shorts :D I like seeing the reactions of people who see me pull it out of there :3

Didn't mean to come across as a preck.. Sorry if I did.
But so far on mine everything looks crisp and clear, I was jealous of my wife's iCrap 4s next to my Electrify, until I got my N7. So that my be part of my problem is that all I had to compare to was my Moto Electrify, and next to it everything looks much better. :)

Re: Using the Nexus 7 as a (almost) daily driver

I've had an extensive hands on with one and I can't get past how terrible fonts look on it. I can't imagine trying to use it as an ebook reader. How can a high res screen render fonts so blurry ? Is the pixel count low ?

Pixel density is darn near that of iPad3. The difference in screens is unnoticable unless you put them side by side. I find it by far the best ereader I have. If you have a problem with jaggie fonts, there is something wrong. They look painted on the screen on mine. Nice and smooth edged, very well rendered.

As for the other folks wondering how you carry it, I wear jeans all the time. Even in the Google cover it goes in my Levis back pocket no problem. Not the cheap-o Walmart jeans though. You don't want to SIT in them, but you don't have to carry it in your hand. Dress slacks or khakis don't always work for me, but Levis for me are every day wear.

Re: Using the Nexus 7 as a (almost) daily driver

I cant believe anyone would need to put an n7 and an ipad3 side by side to the the difference. *scratches head*

I don't really care what the specs say, the ipad3 display is in anothewr class. Things just seem to float on that screen. I whipped out my n7 at work, people looked at it said ok, its cool. Someone comes around with the ipad 3, no one can put it down..the screen is just butta. These are android phone owners some of them mind you..

Re: Using the Nexus 7 as a (almost) daily driver

I wear skinny jeans, fits in my pockets. I use a SMS app to get my text and Gtalk. I never use my phone anymore. Only for tethering. It seems weird at first but its not that big of a deal.

I have to try that. Any particular SMS app you like? Does it futz up the SMS threads on the phone when you do that?
