Hey guys, I'm currently the owner of a evo 3d, and I plan on rooting it soon. I had rooted my (evo) before and I loved the wireless tethering app. So I'm going to be buying an iphone from a friend, and I was wondering by jailbreaking the iphone could it just run off the wireless tethering app from my evo 3d? Like using the internet and the text free application from apples market? Would there be a way to make calls with the iphone even if its not being hooked up to a service? Like an app to make phone calls with just the wifi, similar to how the text free application works?

I am not sure why you'd need to jailbreak the iPhone to tether it to your rooted EVO 3D. That should work just fine with the 3D running WiFi Tether. Using the Internet, sure. I don't know anything about the text free app for iPhone, but if it uses data then it should work fine. I suppose you could make calls via Skype or some other VoIP service on your iPhone while it's tethered to your 3D.

Ok. Well the reason I wanted to jailbreak the iPhone was to see if there was some type of app I could use to make calls, but the Skype is a good idea.

Skype or Google Voice is a good one! A guy I know bought a Verizon MiFi and uses Google voice off of it. Strange but it works and he only pays $50 a month for 4G coverage. It's not something that I would do but it saves him money and he uses it pretty normally. Thats what we need! One more device to carry around right? :P
