V20 Reviews

He seems very happy with the V20 pictures.

Forbes Welcome
I couldn't read all of the article (too much click bait lag), but I could tell his bias again from what I saw. In several of the shots, the iPhone pictures were the best, either subjectively or objectively. In others, it could come down to how the shot was taken and can be compensated for using manual controls.

The delivery truck picture is a good example. He praised the V20 for being able to see more detail inside the truck, but completely ignored the overexposed sky and the washed out colors on the beige building in the background. Depending on your perspective, the iPhone could have just as easily been the better shot.

My advice to anyone who really wants this phone and has something that works right now is to just wait it out.
I want it sooner than later but there is nothing out there or being released soon that interests me. I want the features this phone has and won't settle for anything else. I don't want an IPhone even though it does have two cameras. I don't want a Droid Z force because I don't need bulky mods or a plastic screen. I don't want a Note 7 or any variation of Cheesewiz. I don't want a pixel phone....would rather have a Nexus 6P. I don't need wireless charging or water proofing.
That's my plan. I'm on the G3 now with my girlfriend using my G4 and the V20 is the phone we both have our eyes on. We don't have any choice but to wait. Pixel was almost a top contender for me, but the V20 won because of the removable battery.

LG could have handled this launch better, even if they just were to throw us some scraps of information while we wait, but I think Motorola dropped the ball even more. They may have been able to get a phone out of the door, but I imagine most people probably wanted the Z Force, but aren't Verizon customers. The Moto Z Play sounds like a solid choice, but not with last year's software. I'm not going to buy a new Marshmallow phone when we have a few options for Nougat.

Having read some of this guys other stuff, he is definitely a fan of LG, so I am sure there is some bias. I think though he makes a fair point that the LG is just as good. It is not a perfect camera, but you are talking about a smartphone. Also considering so many of these photos end up on facebook, instagram and other sites that reduce the quality, the pictures are good enough. My wife does print out photos, she does scrapbooking.

I am new to Android. I purchased a S7 Edge to get use to it. The only reason I want the V20 is for the audio quality. There are things that if it did not have, I would not get, such as expandable memory. There are things that I really like about the S7 Edge, and things I hate. I love the Samsung Pay. I use it all the time, other payment options do not work for me, as I rarely see places with tap to pay. I do not like how fragile the S7 is.

The one thing that I do not like about the V20 is, the power button on the back. I am missing part of my index finger, not sure how it will work for me.

LG has knock on and off, and there's many apps (including some launchers) with knock off abilities too. If you don't mind unlocking the code with a pin or knock code, you basically never have to touch the power button if you have issues with it on the back.

I wouldnt let the operating system dictate which phone you buy. The difference between Marshmallow and Nougat is barely noticeable.

Plus another little quirk....V20 has 7.0, while Pixels and phones after that will have 7.1.

If I'm not getting fresh software, there's not much reason to upgrade my phone. There is a noticeable difference going to make N from M. It isn't as minor as going to M from L.

Also, as with most point updates that we've seen on Nexus devices, I doubt there will be anything noticeable to the user between 7 and 7.1 so I'm not worried about what version the Pixel launches with.

I heard the fingerprint reader on the V10 was finicky.

It was for me, at least on T-Mobile. I think AT&T and Sprint got updates that fixed that issue though. I stopped using it a week after I got the phone....it was just too unreliable. When I traded in my V10 back in March they still hadn't fixed it.

Forbes Welcome
Pretty decent little comparison. In my experience with the V10 (and LG's tendencies), their cameras are excellent. But they don't have the smartest auto algorithms. To me that's the only thing that separates Samsung and Apple, highly regarded for their user friendly snappers, from LG. Don't get me wrong LG phones will beat out Apple and Samsung in certain situations but 7/10 it will be just a hair behind and that's not bad at all. Where LG mainly takes the hit is in light sensitivity and dynamic range. Most of the time your subject will be properly exposed for and even better than the competitors but if there's a strong light source you can almost guarantee the background/foreground will be overexposed. This is the same at night. But when you kick things into manual mode you can just underexpose the subject or expose for better highlights and tweak the shadows in post. Also HDR does help to remedy the situation slightly. In manual mode, I would put LG phones up against anything. In auto mode I still would but would know that it would lose some battles because of those weaknesses. For me it all comes down to the experience. I am not a point and shoot type of guy. I absolutely love manual controls and RAW capture. No one offers a more comprehensive manual mode than LG. And now manual focus peaking in the V20. I may never get another phone.lol It's all about the fun for me. I love changing the ISO and tinkering with shutter speed. Or correcting the color temperature when it's off sometimes. Same in video. That's the reason why I haven't jumped ship. LG makes phones for people like me. Samsung comes close with a pretty nice manual mode. The iPhone is too limited in some areas even with third party apps. In the end it's more about what you can do with what's available than the phone itself. With all that being said here's a couple fun shots I took a few nights ago using an nd8 filter to properly control those highlights and my tripod. 2 second exposures at ISO 50.

The entire buttons on the back thing like curved screens was a bad idea that should just be trashed.

My thoughts are that we will finally get our questions answered tomorrow as far as pricing and availability and next week full reviews as LG will probably get the full retail units out to reviewers. I hope the momentum takes off after LG has allowed the initial amazement to die down.

Based on posts and LG reps with the device along with the Youtube link above that supports it here: Good news is the display is apparently better than mediocre as some previews have stated. Bad news is battery life is less than good. Good move with the removable battery in that regard.

The two reviews that actually measured show streaming video media battery life is half that of the Note 7 and 35% less for everything else. That pretty much fits the MXPE that is also 1440p, 5.7", plus this device is pulling power for a second display.

I much preferred the grey g5 to the silver, but the silver v20 in the video actually looked pretty nice. Obviously we can't compare the two just yet, but it looks like it might be shinier and more metallic looking than the silver g5.

I'm thinking the V20 grey looks darker than the G5 but not sure until I see it on person.
