V20 verses Pixel camera test

My son got his Pixel yesterday so snapped a few comparison shots. Gotta say, the Pixel takes really good shots and I like its color saturation a little better, but overall think they are pretty neck-in-neck. And of course you have more control and options with the V20.

V20 is 1st, Pixel 2nd. All shots auto mode.

Thanks for posting this...I know all eyes, monitors, displays are different but the V20 looks a little "hotter" than the Pixel...

Thanks for doing this comparison. I agree with you on the color (like the sky in the 2nd V20 shot). Great detail in the V20 shots though. I am coming from an LG G3 and trying to decide between these two phones. The camera quality is a very important feature for me. I do a lot of hiking and for the most part leave my mirrorless and DSLR at home - the phone ends up being my primary shooter for the short day hikes. Any chance you will be able to do a couple of low-light comparisons?

It is possible that the V10 exposes by half stop more, hence the impression of less saturation.
Have you tried doing a -0.5 exposure compensation to find if you get the same results as the Pixel?

I don't have the V20 but here are a few low light shots I took last weekend with Pixel...the focus was not on the light, if that helps...

Nice shots. Your focus point wasn't on the light, yet it didn't let the light blow out the image and captured the additional detail from the gun and portrait. My G3 has been a reliable and durable workhorse for me, but this camera decision is going to be tough.

I don't have direct comparisons in low light, but here are two pics taken at the exact same time last night, me taking the storefront on V20 while my wife took a pic of the boys right beside me on his Pixel.




Both do pretty good I think.

In all honesty, if you want to just snap a pic and know its good, I think the Pixel wins. If you want to put the effort into it, I think you can get just as good, probably better shots with the V20, but that's me, I like to tinker with the settings and controls. Some don't, and the Pixel would suit them better.

I haven't tried that, but I have noticed in Google Photos, if I do the Auto enhance, it makes the colors a lot closer to the Pixel, so you may be right about the exposure in auto.

I agree in some shots like the tree/lake, and the light pole, but look at the flag poles and bushes below them in the first two shots and tell me the case isn't the exact opposite, hence why I think they are both very close.

Hence my concern. Note 7 had weak LTE reception, but amazing tap and shoot camera for all light conditions.

Yes, both seem to do pretty well. I end up using auto for quick shots mostly when I use the phone out hiking. I like to catch the random critter that didn't expect to see me - and there is never any time to setup the shot. Like you, I like to tinker with the settings when I can for landscape and people shots. DxOMark gave the Pixel the highest phone camera score ever, but they have not yet rated the V20.

Nice comparison pics. The V20 seems to do better with detail in the shadows and the grass looks more natural, especially when you blow up the shot. I've played around with my XL a bit over the weekend and I've been impressed to far with the camera. I may check out a V20 this week and see which one I like better.

the v20 flag and stone look great... then i look at the background and it go back to what I said again =3
While I say it look flat and unnatural both have it good point and bad point... it just that stood out more

Even though I have the Pixel and the XL on order, I've been very tempted by the V20 becasue it seems more COMPLETE...though pure Android is tempting me to stay with Pixel too.
