I walked into a Sprint store today and saw the G6 and S8. The G6 had really thick bezels making the phone look and feel fat. The super flat screen looks nice and would be great for installing screen protectors. However, the display looks very dim and colors look dull on the screen compared to an HTC 10 next to it and also my V20. I think the camera has improved, there's nothing mind blowing about it. Overall, I think the V20 feels thinner and looks better. The S8 and S8+ looks great, though fingerprint sensor on the back is ridiculous. The phone is very narrow so you can comfortably text with one hand, though getting used to that tall aspect ratio is another thing. Not sure how battery performance will be but the demo phone died when I was using it so it turned off. Galaxy phones always are great at the beginning but always has problems later on with battery and performance. The camera is very good however, much better than the V20; very vibrant colors and ultra fast focus. Might be hanging on to my V20, nothing seems too interesting enough to switch over (maybe the S8+).

Don't forget... Some of what you are seeing on the Samsung as better colors is not do much a function of the camera but a function of the Amoled screen. Unless of course you are referring to comparisons of two photos displayed on the same screen.

Samsung Touchwiz UI is painful. I have been spoiled by HTC and LG user interfaces. The sealed battery thing is important too but the UI has to be easy. Yes it would be nice to text with one thumb but it won't be as fast as 2 thumbs. I don't think I will ever return to Samsung. Or Apple.

I am tempted by the S8 plus because if the screen size but am hesitant for 3 reasons... First is the possibility that the battery is too small... Then there's the odd placement of the fingerprint scanner and finally, there's the fact that Samsung phones are known to slow down over time. Those are my main worries with the S8+... Then there's the price... I'm thinking I may just stick with my V20. We'll see...

If I can get a full day using my V20, moderate to heavy usage, on 3200mAh and a 5.7" LCD display then I'm pretty sure the S8+ w/ a 3500mAh battery should be plenty.

You're probably right. It won't matter now anyway cause I decided to stick with the V20 for now. I might upgrade to the Note 8 when it comes out... The problem has nothing to do with the S8+ actually, just that I found out I can't finance two phones at the same time on the same line unfortunately and I'm not paying off my $600+ V20 just to then raise my bill with the S8+. Lol! I'm happy with the V20 anyway. We'll see about the Note 8 though...

I played around with the S8 today at Best Buy in their gigantic Samsung mobile section.

That is one nice phone. Very snappy. Made my V20 feel like a tugboat. Especially taking photos. Its near instant.
And that beautiful screen, even though I hate that edge stuff. I'm so glad LG is switching to Amoled.

If you are referring to the phone in general, don't forget you probably have more running apps installed than a display model. The only lag I notice with the camera is upon startup.

V20 vs G6 vs S8 & S8+

I was on day 14 (last day to return at Verizon) with my V20 so I decided to go and have a look at the S8+.

On the positive side for the S8+ were the display which is really quite beautiful, the width and curved edges seemed to fit my hand a little better - somewhat easier to operate one handed as a result. Didn't take any pictures or run any apps but I'm assuming the camera is just fine and the performance (once fully loaded with apps) is similar with a slight nod to the S8+.

On the negative side, no removable battery and no hi-Rez DAC. I also don't care much for the Samsung UI and no idea about how intrusive/helpful Bixby is compared to the Google assistant.

In the end, decided to keep the V20. The DAC was the killer feature for me (I've got a set of $900 Sennheiser ear buds so as you might guess audio is a big deal for me). Too bad LG decided the G6 didn't need the hi-Rez DAC in the US or I might have looked at it, without it I'm not even interested in looking.

We'll see what the next turn of the wheel brings. More bezel-less phones likely.

Maybe, but those demo models also have so much open from people playing with them all day. I'm sure they are also constantly syncing data back to Samsung telling them which features people tap on first, how long they spend on phone, which apps, etc.

But the LG load camera, tap to take photo, wait for focus, then snap picture, then see the preview image at the very bottom is MUCH slower than the S8. Probably due to that new processor. Could be the LG software is more advanced.

If I had to pick between the devices titled in this thread, the V20 wins.

Replaceable battery

Better display ratio for content. Most video content on the other devices is smaller. Cropping or smaller video with black bars are the options. Even the 8+ is noticeably smaller and the other devices look tiny compared to a standard ratio 5.7" display. Perhaps when Apple changes to the wider stretched ratio content will follow. Apple though does not appear to be doing it and the G6 and S8 are tiny fractions of the overall install base of devices, regardless if they sell bunches.

I'm not sure I buy the theory that they monitor what you tap on I'm the store. Not saying it can't be done, just don't think it's happening.... Maybe someone knows different.

Having just come from a Note 4 the V20 camera performances feels blazing fast.

All this talk of other phones is depressing. I've only had the V20 for 3 weeks, lol.

Get used to people here changing up phones every time a new model is released. I jumped from the G5 to the V20 as soon as it came out. No interest in jumping to anything at the moment. I will wait till at least the V30 and even then I might stick with what I have.
