V30 Flash Disabled in Automatic Mode

when I have my default camera app in automatic mode the button for flash is disabled. If I put it in manual mode then I can do flash. Is this a default feature that flash doesn't work in automatic mode or did I accidentally change a setting?

The shooting mode and the flash are two separate settings.
The flash (lightning bolt) has three settings: on, off, auto (bolt + A)

Same with mine. When the camera is set to Auto, the flash is greyed out with a slash through it. When in manual mode, the flash is no longer greyed out, but I can only select flash on/off, not auto. This is the Verizon version. Wouldn't surprise me if Verizon messed with the camera app.

Wow, that's odd. I just checked on my AT&T V30 and I can change the flash from on/off/auto in Auto mode.

Has nothing to do with Verizon. I am able to toggle the flash setting on my Verizon V30.

Check and see if HDR is set to "On" in the settings. If so, turn it to off or auto and you'll have control of the flash.

Confirmed here. I had HDR set to Auto when I checked on my device. Setting it to "On" turns off the ability to change flash in Auto mode. Good catch there MA2GA28

Good catch.
I tend to have my phone configured for people photos, so HDR is always off since HDR does bad things to people.
