V30+ Questions

Hi all,

So I'm considering an upgrade from my Nexus 6P to the unlocked V30/+, but I have a couple questions, as this would be my first LG smartphone.

I definitely value audio through earbuds, and I've seen the perfect test video on YouTube that shows the difference the DAC makes with headphones of 50 ohm impedance:

https://youtu.be/3TNdRdqFsNw

My first question is, do you have to use the stock music app, or will the DAC also be triggered with Google Play Music? I ask because I stream my tunes from there.

Second, does the unlocked V30+ supposed T-Mobile band 4? I've seen conflicting info where band 4 support is listed on some, but not all sites. On the T-Mobile site proper, it does list support, but only 2-3G support while roaming.

Third, how's the screen brightness at max, in sunlight? Is it visible, or must you squint or find shade? Has LG addressed the issues with screen uniformity?

Fourth, how is battery life, including stand by time on the V30/+? For instance, on my 6P, if I unplug at 100% at bedtime, I lose about 2-3% at night.

The way I see it, my options to upgrade are either the V30/+, the HTC U12, or the Galaxy S9+. I love HTC's BoomSound audio cause it sounds great, even with my current 32 ohm earbuds, but I'm wary about going to LCD over AMOLED. I know the S line is supposed to come with stereo speakers "tuned by AKG", but I have no experience with a device "tuned by AKG", so I don't know if the audio experience would even compare to that of the V30/+ or HTC, even with Samsung's bundled AKG earbuds. Does anyone here have experience with all three, that can compare the sound of LG's DAC with BoomSound and AKG through an ear/headphone?

I suppose another option I have would be to wait for LG's supposed V30+ Alpha. I don't care about AI, and I don't take any detailed photos other than the occasional point-and-shoot. I also don't do anything graphic intensive. Even so, I'd hope any upgraded V30 would come with the latest internals, including the SD 845 and a higher capacity battery, because, why not?

Apologies for the long-winded post, but since I'm due for an upgrade and I plan on keeping my next device for two years, I'd like to be as informed as possible if I am to part with $1000 when all is said and done. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

The DAC will work with any sound source as long as you as using the jack. The disadvantage to some streaming sites is low bitrate however you will still get great sound unless you have really bad sound files. I normally use lossless files stored on my device, however I try stream at high bitrate and get great results.

I have the v30+ and love it. The quad DAC is something else.

It definitely will work with Google play music and all music apps.

You can set it to launch a specific program automatically when you plug into the headphone jack and also when you turn on Bluetooth.

So mine is set to launch Google play music as soon as I plug in headphones. The phone launches Spotify when I turn on Bluetooth.

Does anyone know if the v30 will ever allow dual audio connection for bluetooth, like the Note 8 does? Possibly when Oreo is available for the v30?
