Vague unlock instructions

I got the unlock code from AT&T to unlock my Note 4 but the instructions are vague.

To unlock your device, simply:

1. Power off the device and remove the SIM card.
2. Power on the device.
3. Enter #0111*, the unlock code, and #. The device powers off and back on.

I assume I'm doing this in the dialer but am I supposed to hit send after the #011* and then after the unlock code and finally after the # or string the whole thing together and hit send? So far when I try different ways I just get a message that says "emergency call only".

Poor instructions IMO. It took me 3 phone calls and 7 different people to get the unlock code. I filled out the form once and it was denied, after one call I was instructed to use a different line on my account and that request was denied also. The second time I called I got transferred to 5 different people and then hung up on (no, I was not being rude or using profanity). The third time I called I actually got someone who knew what they were doing and I ended up getting the unlock code the next day. Now I can't get it to work and I dread calling back.

Put the new SIM (the one it won't accept) into the phone. (The only reason to unlock a phone is to use it with a SIM from a carrier it won't accept.) Turn it on. It'll ask you for the unlock code. Put it in. Done.

I don't have another SIM. I want to unlock it before I sell it so I can get more for it. Can't it be unlocked without another SIM? Why don't the instructions mention that?

You can buy a Red Pocket sim card (T-mobile) on amazon for dirt cheap.

I went to the Samsung Experience Store in my local Best Buy and the Samsung guy was kind enough to put his T-Mo SIM into it. The phone prompted me to put in the unlock code and that was all it took. I don't know why AT&T sent such worthless instructions. Obviously they don't really want people to unlock their phones.

Thanks for the input.

Strange. When I had my M7 years ago I unlocked it after having it for only 2 weeks and it was free but I had a 2 year contract. I called 611 and they sent a text with the unlock code. It was pretty simple IMO. Going forward I'd just call and ask for the code. All they will need is the phones IMEI number and of course your account information. (If you have an account with them.)

They sent me an unlock code with a different number of digits than my tablet wanted. They ping-ponged me to Samsung who said they have nothing to do with it, i let the stupid thing sit for a year, was able to then do a wipe on it and give it away.

I will never, ever, ever buy another piece of hardware from atnt again, nor another atnt branded product from anywhere, whether locked or unlocked.

(this bad experience was not an isolated event.)

Sorry to hear that! When I unlocked my M7 years ago it was pretty simple. I could see a tablet maybe being a little more confusing though. Still not an excuse for it taking so long.

I'm currently battling AT&T to unlock an old S3 that I sold to a friend that has verison. They have sent me a code that does not work. They only give me 5 tries to unlock the phone before it is permanently locked to AT&T. What's the big deal? It's my phone that has been bought and paid for. I will smash it to pieces if I can't get it unlocked. AT&T have been useless with helping me resolve the issue.

If your friend has Verizon your AT&T S3 won't work. When I had my S3 for only 3 months AT&T gave me the correct unlock code. I had my S5 for 6 months before I tried to unlock it. They gave me the correct code once I saw a glitch for the unlock request form posted.

I went to Best Buy, one of the Samsung people there had a t-mobile phone. They wrote down my unlock code.
Got on the computer for the directions. Put the Tmobile Sims card in. It asked for the unlock code, they entered it and unlocked my phone.
Took the Tmobile Sims out and put my AT&T Sima card in.

AT&T wasn't able to help me.
