Verizon 3G hotspot Now Activated for Free?

I noticed yesterday mine work working as well, without ever having spoken to Verizon about activating.
Will be interesting to see if we are hit with charges for usage on the next bill or not...

I looked at my bill and I got the phone for about 2 days before my bill cycle and my data usage went from 500mb to roughly 1.6gb but then again I was downloading TONS of apps.
My bill cycle is about 3 days in and I'm close to 200 mb, that's with nothing being downloaded just web pages and emails. God I love this phone.

You wont be charged unless you go over 5gb. Don't go over that 5 and you're fine. That's same for rooted or non rooted phones. Speed is the same. No need for any other app other than the native app. If you are on the $15 data plan obviously this isn't wise.
I've seen people who have downloaded over the 5gb and say they have not been charged extra. I received text warnings from VZW Before I hit the limit, warning me I was close. Then when I went over the prices for the 10gb (or whatever the next is) is like $120!
This was awhile ago and things changed for data pckgs, but that was low end usage. I don't believe the highend was affected. The prices I was quoted was for the tethering package. They say that the mobile data is unlimited. I don't want to start another argument about data limits and VZW pricing/structure of their data plans for mobiles.
Just know when you get close to 5gb pay close attention.

For those of you worried about charges. Verizon rep says it wont even work unless you activate. When you start the app it warns about battery life and says call to activate but doesnt say you will be charged extra if you dont officially activate. I dont see how they could charge you without warning you of additional charges first. Especially when the app is preloaded on the phone. Im still using wireless tether since im rooted but wouldnt be too worried about using the hotspot. If they try to charge you dispute it.
No...I have yet to see proof of it happening to a single person rooted or not.
I think the 5gb cap is just a myth. My plan says "unlimited" & when I check my usage it shows what I have used out of UNLIMITED.

EXACTLY! I don't know where people keep getting this 5GB cap thing but it always comes up.
There is no cap or throttling on the amount of data you can consume on Verizon & nowhere in the contract does it say there is.
There is a 5gb cap on network cards or there was when my mother in law had it
And I turn on hotspot try to connect with my itouch and can't so guess it's not working for me

Right. I meant there is no cap or throttling on the mobile phone data plan...sorry if I made anyone misunderstand.
As far as the 3G Hotspot app working or not, I have no clue because I haven't tried it. I am rooted and have the Wireless Tether for Root app in case I would need it in a pinch.
I will say that when I first got my X I tried setting up the 3G Hotspot app and thought it was working for free because I was able to start it up, set up the security key, & my laptop connected to it...but when I tried to go to any website..it would only refer me to the Verizon wireless website prompting me to enroll in the service.

In small fine print it days something about 5gb. And data card aka air cards have a 5gb cap.
