Verizon Account Help

Hello all,

A question for Verizon users:

Last year, I bought a Galaxy S5 from Costco with a Squaretrade Warranty. After almost a year of ownership, I cracked the digitizer. After a week of negotiating with Sqauretrade, I got a replacement phone from Squaretrade (Brand New S5). I popped in my old SD and never thought of it again.

Last month while looking on My Verizon, I noticed that the IMEI on the account was still for the old device and not for the new one. I currently don't have the old device. Should I have the new phone IMEI on my account and have the old one removed, or does it not matter? If it does matter, how do I do switch the IMEI numbers? Last month I tried to get it changed, but it didn't work.

Any help is appreciated. Happy Holidays!

Just call Verizon and ask them to update the IMEI on your account. It doesn't hurt anything to NOT update it, but could be helpful later on if you should ever lose your phone and want Verizon to blacklist it. They will have the old IMEI - just call and tell them you got a replacement phone and want to update the IMEI number.

It would be a good idea to let them know. They are using imei more than Sim to identify now.

You can log into your online account and select the change device option. It will prompt you for the new IMEI#.

How do you do that? I would much rather prefer to swap it, but I cannot find where you would do this on the website.

Log in to to your VZW account. On the website, the banner menu (up top) has an option for "My Devices".
Select "Activate or Switch Devices"
Select "Activate a Device on an Existing Line"
Follow the prompts
