Verizon is the largest US carrier. So it is no wonder that Big Red would have many of the most desired phones. It is interesting to note that Sprint is coming in second in the Android Central 2011 Readers Choice Awards for the Top 10 Phones in the US. Sprint has far fewer subscribers than AT&T but has 3 of the Top 10 phones compared to AT&T at 2. When you look at the chart, the reason for Verizon's and Sprint's success is pretty clear.

Verizon and Sprint seem to be responding to the customer demand for larger displays and are being rewarded with seven of the top 10 spots. At the other end of the spectrum, readers are shying away from T-Mobile except for it's one 4.3" phone, the Sensation. As much as we like Carly Foulks in the T-Mobile ads, we are just hoping to see a little more...display.

One other trend is that not one of the Top 10 phones have physical keyboards. You have to go down to the 15th ranked phone, The Sprint Epic, to find a slide-out keyboard. Smaller displays and keyboards seem to quickly move to the bargain aisle, at least in this survey.

Here are the Top 10 so far with the larger form factors in bold:
1. Sprint HTC EVO 3D 4.3"
2. Verizon HTC Thunderbolt 4.3"
3. Sprint HTC EVO 4G 4.3"
4. T-Mobile HTC Sensation 4.3"
5. AT&T Motorola Atrix 4"
6. AT&T Samsung Infuse 4G 4.5"
7. Sprint Motorola Photon 4.3"
8. Verizon Samsung Droid Charge 4.3"
9. Verizon Motorola Droid Bionic 4.3"
10. Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 3.7"

Dunno, I just bought the Photon, but I would have been happier if it were a little smaller and happier yet if it had a keyboard. I was looking at other phones, but I don't care for the landscape keyboards I've tried, and my friends told me I was vrazy to consider an out-of-date phone like the XPRT, that didn't even have 4G. I was disucssing this trend with friends, and everyone agreed that there just aren't any high-end phones on the market with smaller screens right now.

(and I'm definitely appreciating the zippy processor and the 4G.)

iPhone 5 is rumored to only sport an 4 inch screen.

IF The Pre 3 comes out it will also only be sporting a 3.7 inch screen (Only consider this IF the 1.2DC CPU is true.)

Other than that there are no other REALLY good smaller screen phones coming out that I know of anyways. I am sure more are coming though! I love my E3D screen. I hate it in the pocket but I LOVE looking at it!
