Verizon announces VoLTE in the upcoming weeks

They probably have the least spotty LTE coverage in most places :p

I travel for a living, and their lte coverage is not ready for this, get out of the city and sometimes in the cities there will be dropped calls. They might be better then the others in coverage area, but they raced it out to fast and there are holes

Do you know how that compares to other carriers in the same area?
I'm on T-Mobile, and when I have gone to Vegas (driving through the desert mountains), Verizon has been better. The person who had VZW was on LTE the majority of the time. My uncle on ATT had HSPA+ most of the way. I had EDGE most of the way, save for a few big cities in between.

You said it for me, lte majority the time. What I'm saying is be prepared for more dropped calls. There are plenty of holes in Verizon lte coverage, they aren't ready to drop cdma yet.

I feel they are rushing things out to be first at the expense of the quality of their network. I hope I'm wrong.

T-Mo already has VoLTE deployed. They won't drop CDMA completely anytime soon if you ask me. A couple of years at least.

Last report I saw was 2021 for CDMA shutdown.

Fellow trucker here, and while Verizon may not be 100% LTE yet, they are far superior over any other network. I go into the deep woods sometimes and even there I have great coverage in most of those places.

Also keep in mind that to make use of HD and video calling, both parties have to be on a capable network. So to me, it seems like there's going to still be a lot of times where those features won't even initiate simply due to the other person you're calling not being on a capable network or is on a landline. If you're worried about dropping calls due to the Verizon holes, I think the bigger worry is dropping calls due to the person you're calling losing the signal. Again, that's assuming you were making an HD call in the first place.

As of now it looks like Verizon is going to give is the option to turn it on or off which is good, but that option will probably go away.

I understand Verizon has probably the best coverage out there, we all see that fact and pay for that fact in our bills. But there are plenty of holes in Verizon 4g coverage, so Verizon has a lot of work to complete by 2021, which in terms of network improvement isn't a lot of time. I'm just pointing out Verizon, might be further ahead of the other carriers in lte, they aren't there yet.

According to Verizon, their entire network is now LTE capable. So to fill any holes (and I don't deny they exist) would mean putting up additional towers. I'm sure that has a much longer ROI than simply upgrading existing towers, if they can even get a return on it at all. When it comes to rural areas, that may not even happen and wouldn't be worth the cost from a business perspective if there isn't enough (potential) customer base there.

I have noticed a couple areas recently where I think they put up new towers, and they are basically in marsh land with only a 1/2 horse town nearby. Yes, it's so small that it doesn't qualify for a full horse. It's nice that I can now hold a call through what used to be a total dead zone, but I also understand those towers are being mostly paid for by people that don't use them. Those will only make prices go up more as a result.

Either way, I can use the LTE on/off app on my phone to turn 4G off at will. As long as that still works, I can set my phone to CDMA only even if Verizon does remove the option to disable VoLTE, and prevent HD calling if it becomes a problem. :sly:

According to them yes... But if there are holes it isn't 100 percent LTE... It would be something like 99.4 or something.

I don't trust many companies when they quote coverage and speeds... How long did we see (and still do see) multiple carriers saying they're the most reliable and the fastest? How would it be true they're the fastest but so is the other guy? Just doesn't make sense :).

ATT says they have most reliable. Verizon says they have the largest. T-Mo says they have the fastest. No conflicting terms there :p

Based on the latest root metrics report released last week.

So maybe it's fixed now but back in the day.. It definitely didn't add up :).

Actually.. Nope.. They're still doing it. See below.

Both are the "most" reliable? :D.

Yeah, what they claim isn't the same as what's true. I'm just saying their claims CAN be mutually exclusive.
There are different sources that claim different things. Based on the data that they have, i am sure it is true. But different sources use different data

When it comes to dropped calls, there are two scenarios where I've encountered hand off issues. One seems to be a specific set of towers that never seem to want to talk to each other to hand off, and the other is when going from a Verizon to Extended Network area (which may be beyond Verizon's control). So I was thinking, making a VoLTE call would be using a different technology than traditional CDMA. So who knows, the number of dropped calls may be reduced if the handoff between towers is better on the new system. Now if you live in a sketchy area or house where simply walking into the basement causes you to drop from LTE to 1x, then fair point. I suspect those issues are few and far between and many of those people already have those femtocell devices that intercept the call and run it as VOIP over their internet anyway.

I believe that att's source is dated. I haven't seen any report substantially covering the period since xlte was officially announced that gives the reliability award to att

Yeah they usually are pulling from different sources so that is why they will claim the same thing .. I was just saying it is just dumb they can both say the same thing as "being the most reliable"... that is why I was saying I don't trust Verizon saying they're 100 % LTE when people know of areas that simply don't have the LTE coverage but have 3g ... Their source could say so but ... Who can say that source is correct? :).

I have a source confirming that the source of the source is reliable. Checks out ??????
