According to
Verizon, their entire network is now LTE capable. So to fill any holes (and I don't deny they exist) would mean putting up additional towers. I'm sure that has a much longer ROI than simply upgrading existing towers, if they can even get a return on it at all. When it comes to rural areas, that may not even happen and wouldn't be worth the cost from a business perspective if there isn't enough (potential) customer base there.
I have noticed a couple areas recently where I think they put up new towers, and they are basically in marsh land with only a 1/2 horse town nearby. Yes, it's so small that it doesn't qualify for a full horse. It's nice that I can now hold a call through what used to be a total dead zone, but I also understand those towers are being mostly paid for by people that don't use them. Those will only make prices go up more as a result.
Either way, I can use the LTE on/off app on my phone to turn 4G off at will. As long as that still works, I can set my phone to CDMA only even if Verizon does remove the option to disable VoLTE, and prevent HD calling if it becomes a problem. :sly:
