Verizon Apparently not offering Galaxy S II

Look at this poll on Droid Life. Ouch, not good news for the Bionic.

the guys over at HoFo have largely said the same thing. wnrussell posted just a couple days ago that "nobody's interested in the Bionic," and that the DHD should be worth the wait.

altho, that poll indicates that 40% of the people will be getting the Bionic - that's still a pretty good chunk.

Hmm in that response it said the new phone is not a 4G phone. Guess I would have passed on it anyways. I live in a great 4G area.

I think there could be something to the mention of VZW having the "Samsung DROID Charge" and having a phone "similar" to the SGSII on the way. This may be nothing more than a matter of semantics saying that VZW won't carry the "Samsung Galaxy S II". I could easily see them releasing a new version of the Samsung DROID Charge (call it a Charge II, or Charge +?!?) that would have specs almost identical to the SGSII..... I mean look, they've already got a replacement/version 2 coming for the LG Revolution..... this may be nothing more than them wanting to have some consistency with the naming of devices on their network, which would play much better to the general buying public. Sure those of us in these forums know these devices by all of their various names and variations, but does Average Joe?!? Not really.....

He's the same guy who said the Bionic would be worth the wait at the beginning of summer too.

And where's the guarantee that the DHD will be released anytime soon considering. The Bionic was supposed to be out in April?

Yeah, I was a bit surprised by that. Two thoughts: 1) Lots more GS2 fans are going to comment than Bionic fans. Those 2 phones seem to be very polarizing. 2) Kellex has a lot of people on the anti-Bionic due to pentile bandwagon. He's now flipped (of course) but was railing on it for quite a while. Many DL readers are lemmings.

"We have a robust portfolio of devices that offer customers exciting options including the Droid Charge by Samsung which runs on our 4G LTE network. The new phone is not a 4G phone."

Robust portfolio...exciting options....

I guess Verizon is taking a page from the Marie Antoinette book of customer relations: "Let them eat cake."

Robust portfolio. Ha. How's that LG Revolution working out for ya Verizon?

Anyone think that the device Verizon is holding out for could be the 3G Samsung Illusion on the leaked roadmap? After all, there was no evidence the GS2 was meant to be LTE...

Another thought is that Samsung might make their own device similar to the Nexus Prime, but not branded as a Nexus device. Sort of a competitor to the Vigor or DHD, but with TouchWiz on it. It doesn't make the most sense, but Nexus devices don't appeal to a very large market.

At least they managed to not place full page ads for it in major papers like the HTC Merge, or display images of it on the website. (ditto) At least that phone sorta made it out on Verizon for those willing to search for it. :/

I'm back in phone search limbo....and it sucks. Maybe I should just get a lackluster Droid 3 and be a good little customer for Verizon! /sarcasm

Well, hopefully this means that the Bionic Vs GSII debates will stop. Makes my decision easier, root for the Droid 3 and the potential of an unlocked bootloader in November just seals the deal.

:O really? That could make it compelling, any links for more info? Blows that there's only 512 mb of RAM though. Seriously...that's really annoying for a "flagship" device.

Hope someone has him on suicide watch! (Ha, I know he had said he was likley waiting for Prime).

Honestly, considering the major lack of ANY leaks about the VZW variant of the GS2, well, other than fanboys SWEARING it was going to have LTE, this makes some sense. No FCC docs, no leaked photos, no leak vids, no mentions of testing at all. There was nothing besides the cryptic words of a Samsung exec telling us that we were getting it.

Sad indeed, as this was looking like my next phone if it was LTE-enabled.

Yeah, the lack of FCC docs was a bit of a mystery but I think many suspected they pulled an apple and kept VZW's docs close to the vest for as long as possible.

4G slider.. blah.

Yeah, the Stratosphere is probably the 4G "Epic LTE" slider. With last year's specs, I might end up passing.

Hah! Totally, it's pretty awful but Verizon's always been the most controlling out of the "big 4" networks. Crippling bluetooth back in the day, forcing their ****ty UI onto their dumbphones long before anyone else, offering up devices w/out wi-fi so you'd have to use data and crippling GPS so you'd have to pay for VZ Navigator...ugh. Awful.

My response from Verizon's Brenda Raney when asked why the Galaxy SII was passed up by Verizon:

"We have an exciting portfolio of devices including the 4G LTE Droid Charge by Samsung. The new Galaxy S device is a 3G device."

What a joke..

Well, everything CK had told us about the Samsung Stratosphere being the SGSII was wrong. I suppose that'll be the slider. Or Verizon has a nice 4.5" device heading our way without the Galaxy branding. So much mystery.

CK said he had a source that explained that the GS2 delayed was because they were making the device 4G. He was also banned so he's not exactly a wise source.
