Verizon Apparently not offering Galaxy S II

Well, i'm glad that I got the Tbolt before they changed to usage-based-data-plan. I waited for GS2 since it came out in Korea, but had to jump in to lock the unlimited data plan deal. If I had chosen to wait for GS2 instead, I'd be crying my heart out right now lol. I was going to wait for GS3 anyways when I decided to get the Tbolt. so.....:bye bye GS2

While I don't have Verizon, I can honestly say when I saw the advertisement pic today with only 3 carriers I was disappointed. Anybody on the big 4 carriers of the U.S. deserved to own this phone especially when we were all anticipating it so much by rummaging the Internet for details daily ever since this phone was shown off at the beginning of the year. And with them cutting a limb off the "carrier body", there's a huge chunk of support and guidance that will disappear here on the forum. Your section has a great deal of activity and some very knowledgable fellows to say the least. They did say that there will be a device very similar to the S2 so I do hope that comes fast for you guys and that the interface will be extremely similar for all our sakes and enjoyment. condolences Vz guys.

I really appreciate what you have to say here and I'm sure everyone feels the same. VZW and samsung definitely lost a lot of sales for sure by going this route. I guess I'm in the minority but there are a few others that have at least considered going to Sprint to get it, so there should be some people on the sprint gs2 forum anyway.

Technically you didn't have to do that. I am still waiting for either the Bionic, Vigor or Prime and I have yet to own my first smart phone. The phone I have right now is definitely classified as "stupid", but the day before the switch to a tired plan I added unlimited data to my account. I figured that it would be worth it to pay the $30 per month for two/three months so that I could have it when I actually get my phone. I also made sure to ask two separate reps at VZW's call center as well as an in store rep and have them put it in writing on my account that my unlimited plan would not be removed or changed when I upgraded to my new phone. I am sure that I will have to argue a bit to make sure it is not removed, but I expected them to be sneaky and try to con me out of it.

When it comes down to it I am actually not as upset about this as I was previously. The SGSII that we I fell in love with never actually existed. I guess I got so worked up in what I thought VZW should do that I never really realized that a SGSII with LTE etc. never really existed. If the phone was going to release as a 3G phone I honestly would never have purchased it and therefor I am not that upset. With the very promising news of the Vigor and Prime (a bit more vague), I almost feel like this was all for the best because I will end up with a phone that is potentially much better.

TYou do realize that the majority of VZW users feel kind of jaded over verizons changes right? I don't mind the etf as much because it is like paying retail instead of subsidized pricing. But some of the moves VZW has made recently are punishing customers. The sad thing is that it punishes new customers instead of the abusers that are already on the network.

Yeah even though I wouldn't switch I have actually become increasingly angry with the way that VZW seems to be treating their customers. I honestly don't care at all about ETF because when you sign a legally binding agreement you should be held to that IMHO. The main things that really make me angry are the small things they try to sneak past you. I was very pissed when they removed the new every two plan (and even more pissed when I found out the NE2 upgrade I already had was going to expire) and how they are intentionally increasing the prices of phones (when the retail price isn't changing). I was also really angry about the shady and backhanded things they did with the Thunderbolt's hotspot capabilities. They intentionally extended the free trial period and blocked thunderbolt owners from signing up for unlimited mobile hotspot. Now every thunderbolt user has to sacrifice his/her unlimited data plan in order to "legally" tether. The tether situation in general is just very frustrating considering how much you pay for your data. Even if I have unlimited data I should be allowed to do whatever the hell I want with it as long as I stay below a reasonable number (say 1-ish Gb of tethered data). I agree that it can get ridiculous and people abuse it, but as it stands currently I am not allowed to use even 1mb of data with tethering. Punish the people who abuse the network, don't punish every single person who uses it.

Well this is really starting to turn into a rant so I think its time to go do something else lol

I will be switching to Verizon once I get my financial aid money and was super excited for te SGSII. I'm still hoping Verizon gets it but I doubt it after seeing that picture. I'm currently with T-Mobile but Verizon gets better service around here and is 4G here. I guess I'll be ending up with a Charge, which is still good. Or I'll look at the sliders if it's like the SGSII, even though I don't want a keyboard.

That's what I've heard/seen. Plus my girlfriend will get a 17% discount through her work so it's tough not to go to Verizon.

If Verizon isn't coming out with a similar/new Samsung device then I'd really love a reason they thought they shouldn't sell this.

Verizon's plans from here on is simple. Any. Phone that would be consider a high range phone, like the bionic or the SGS2 will have to have LTE. The only reason the Droid 3 doesn't have it probably is because it was so far along that they just released it. Why have the network and continue put out 3g phones.

At first I was disappointed to hear the Galaxy S II wasnt coming to vzw when I read it on twitter. But hearing the Nexus Prime "hopefully will" has me waiting to see .
If it doesnt(or someother topend android phone) I might leave vzw this coming june(2012)

^^^ QFT. I am currently a Verizon customer with a 2 year old feature phone (Samsung Alias 2) looking to join the smartphone community. So what does Verizon do? They drop the unlimited data option for people like me, and raise the pricing of their top-tier smartphones to $299 on contract. Tell me again why I should stick with Verizon? I get excellent Sprint coverage in my area, can get unlimited data, and their top-tier smartphones are $199 on contract.

It almost seems like Verizon is making a concerted effort to lose me as a customer.

Good point. I forgot about that. I had a smartphone for a long time,so I didn't even think about the people without them. My bad. I should have said new smartphone customers.

I don't think anyone here is not allowing you to switch.

So go to Sprint...who cares. They're working on splitting the bill with someone else for an LTE network. You're lucky that the rest of the country gets awful service so that they can give top tier phones away for $100 less.

Also $299 for top tier phones is nothing new. The Droid 1 was $299

That's not the point. I feel like Verizon is punishing me for something I had no hand in causing. They should have targeted the data abusers and charged them more money instead of giving them a free pass to continue to do what they do because of a "grandfather" clause. Instead they put a cap on the amount of data I could use each month because I am a current feature phone customer who wants a new smartphone.

Makes no sense to me whatsoever.

The fact that the Galaxy S II is not coming to Verizon now makes my decision to bolt from their extremely poor customer retaining pricing structure even more palatable.

yeah offering cheaper phones to get them to come to a crappy network? seems fair..lol "hey we aren't like big red at all, we won't cap you (because you won't get enought coverage to use anywhere close to any cap we could give you anyway lol)"

thought this thread was about the lack of the GS2 on verizon, not why you should get an awesome paperweight from sprint... just saying.
