If the phone subsidy wasn't already built into the monthly service fee, this would simply be a regular lease/rip off type program. But since Verizon customers are still paying a subsidy in Verizon's high monthly rates, this makes this program nothing but a rip off.

At least with T-Mobile the monthly rate for service is lower, which makes it's Jump program a bit more desirable. Plus the $10 monthly fee to be in Jump covers the cost of insurance. Not sure how its network competes with Verizon's but I have friends with T-Mobile and I don't hear any complaints.

AT&T's next is even worse. You have to give Verizon some credit for not being the worst (not much)

Is Next worse than Edge because customers have to wait 12 months versus six months?

Not to mention that you have to drop your unlimited plan and go to Share Everything. Doing that alone will push my monthly up $30.

Pretty much. Most people who want the latest and greatest don't want to wait 12 months. I upgrade every 7-9 months. Although, the AT&T next might be cheaper, for example, the iPhone 5 is $27/mo for 20 months or $540,if you paid out the 20 months. You can upgrade after 12 months, or $324. Though, since you are losing your subsidy during this time, AT&T isn't losing money.

On Verizon you can upgrade when you have paid half or $325,but you can do it at the 6 month mark

Just to add, you can upgrade anytime between 6 mo - 12 mo and pay $325 assuming $650 retail. Month 13 goes up to $328.

On att, you have to upgrade at the 12th month to pay $324. Otherwise the amount that you pay would go up after the 12th month.
