Verizon extends return date to 1/9 for holidays

does it hurt verizon if someone buys a phone and returns it for another............like I'm planning to do come monday if there isn't any word?

I don't think it hurts them because they just used the returned phones to fulfill warranty exchanges as refurbs. If you think about it those refurbished phones that they give out when someone's phone breaks and is covered under warranty has to come from somewhere. When a new phone is released they have to give out brand new phones at first until they get refurbs to give out instead.

Looks like I'll be playing with Siri for a few weeks starting tomorrow. Now my anti-apple rants can be educated at least.

That is what I thought when I got the iPhone 4 to hold me over for a couple months until the Bionic came out and wound up loving it, so I skipped the Bionic altogether. I was a big time iPhone hater, rocking the original DROID since release then the DROID X when it released. I went to Verizon to pick up a Thunderbolt but decided to give the iPhone 4 a try instead and was too impressed with it. The screen although small is the most beautiful screen out there, and fonts are very easy to read. The Safari web engine is a hundred times better than the Android web engine. The rendering on safari is as close to desktop as possible but optimized for touchscreen where the Android browser isn't. It is impossible to open up certain links using the android browser, especially the ones that are in a pop up menu which most sites use.

As an example go to The Florida State University and on the left hand side click on Key Sites which will open up a box with links. Then, try clicking on the campus.fsu.edu link from there.

Anyways, I am going to give the Nexus a shot since I do like bigger screens and I love trying new phones out, But the iPhone 4 and 4s (which I have now) are the most stable and smoothest smartphones out there.

My current phone reboots itself 10-20 times a day and I still won't be taking advantage of the return policy. I just don't want to waste a phone. I don't blame others though. Do what you have to do to pass the time until the GN gets here. Just don't give up on it and settle for anything less. If the delay is too long, such as we find out it will be months, I may get an older phone from eBay. Maybe the Incredible 2 or something like that.

As far as the iPhone goes, I have an iPod Touch and my wife has an iPhone 4 so I've had the Apple experience. It's nice, but always feels like it is lacking something. I'm sure it's that I can't stand that locked-down feeling when I know there are much better alternatives. That and I can't stand not being able to change the battery. I can live with it on an iPod but not on a phone.

Im not sure,I ordered mines online yesterday and I was wondering if its activation date or purchase date, for people who ordered it online?

For those who ordered their Rezounds today (me), you can beg and plead over the phone with the rep, and they'll extend your return window to Jan. 9th.

oh such BS, Just got an iPhone 4S to try and hold me out til the GN, which doesn't look like it will be released in my 14 day window. Just bought this 2 days ago so Guess I wont be eligible for that long of a return window. I really don't get what people like about these iPhones, I've been dying to get back to android. If I'm not able to get the GN in time I guess I'll be stuck with getting the Razr.

Why do you have to get something in the next 14 days? Just return the iPhone and wait for the Nexus on the 13th day.

Am I the only one who feels as if it would be kind of wrong to get a new device, just so I can play with it.... knowing full well that my plan is to return it?

Isn't that just like the chicks that buy an expensive dress they can't afford, to wear it to an important event... but leave the tag on it so they can take it back?

It does sound tempting to take advantage of Verizon's policy, but I don't think I would feel good about it.

Doubt it was done in connection to the GN? Why would they want to allow thousands of people to "rent" a device for 2-3 weeks and then return them all?

Well, they don't want everyone to rent devices. But as was pointed out earlier, it makes perfect sense for those getting a phone as a gift for someone for Christmas. The end date is 14 days out from Christmas. Since many of the phone purchases are made prior to Christmas, and then given on Christmas, it makes sense to have the policy start now for those buying phones as gifts to give to someone on Christmas. If there was no change in the policy, those who buy phones within the next month or so would have the return period expire before they actually gave the phone to someone as a gift.

No, you're not the only one. I'm not going to do it unless my phone dies on me before the Nexus comes out. While very antiquated now, I've dealt with my BlackBerry for this long and it still works fine. So, I'll hang on to it a another week or so -- although hopefully only a few days. ;)

Don't feel bad, they will just ultimately use it as a warranty replacement.
also just think the premium price you pay for VZ it's kinda one of the perks.
I had to try out the Razr. But I don't think I'm gonna hold it the full two weeks. Me thinks
it's going back tomorrow. Mobile hotspot issues.....
Besides I also want to see shat the GN is like.....

You need to wait a day after your contract ends . That's the way with any contract ending. If you have good credit most likely you can charge the phone to your account. If you make a device switch there is a 35.00 restocking fee. Only corporate stores will allow the phone to be charged to the account. Premium retailers and other retailers will not let you.

I think its wrong to get a phone knowing you plan to return it. This is a huge reason why Verizon rescinded the 30 day trial. People take advantage of policies and then the retailer has to change policy to handle the losses. They do make the phones as warranty replacements but its still a loss of revenue. Deliberately taking a phone with the intention to return is just as bad as stealing in my opinion

Verizon gets $35 for every returned phone. Carriers still charge people for txt messages. That's worse than stealing in my opinion.

Well, right or wrong, I don't feel comfortable doing it... so i won't. My Droid X is working fine. I'll just flash some ROMs during the wait. Need to find a nice stable one anyway, because my fiancee is getting my X when I get the Nexus.

I completely understand for those of you that are limping along with your device. That's the reason I bought my DX from eBay. The power button on my OG failed... had to slide the keyboard out to wake the device, or plug it in to get it to boot.

Figures. I bought The rezound yesterday to hold me over till GNex came out. I called CS to see if any way I could get till 1/9 and none of them knew anything about it. I will have to go to the store and ask.

I would hate to have to return it and buy right back.

If you don't work for Verizon or own the company, why does it matter to you if someone returns a phone? You guys are acting like someone broke a law or something. You can test a phone out at a Verizon store and a few days after find out there's something you don't like about the phone. I also feel that if Im going to be stuck into a contract for two years, you damn right Im going to make sure its the phone I really want.

Personally, I was raised not to waste money, not my money, and not someone else's. It's wasting Verizon's money to buy a phone you don't need with the express intent to return it, and in my opinion that's morally questionable and childish. Now, if your current phone is inadequate (broken hardware, etc), or you are actually considering keeping the phone you buy, that's perfectly proper and responsible. They know that some people will return phones for one reason or another and they account for it, and it's a service that's greatly appreciated. In fact, that's exactly the point of the service. But abusing it for the sake of "Ha! Take THAT Verizon!" is childish and wrong, whether you work for them or not. Yeah, there's no law against being a jerk, but that doesn't mean I have to approve of people being jerks.

That doesn't mean I'm going to go on a rampage hate-fest preaching at everyone that does it, I just don't approve. And I sincerely hope noone here actually cares whether or not I, a random internet stranger, approve of their actions. Do what you're gonna do.

It doesn't matter to me. I only wondered if anyone shared my thoughts, or opinion. I don't think it's okay to drink light beer or listen to country music either. Doesn't mean those that do are wrong.... it's just a character flaw ;-)

Surely, I jest.

Let's drop this moral argument, guys. It's a dead horse that's been beaten on these forums more than the arguments over PenTile.

How people cant see how VZW's game is played is beyond me.. VZW doesn't give a hoot what you do with their phone, the thing the care about the most is that you are PAYING them $$$ to be with them ala the 2 year contract. yeah their bloatware may benefit them when purchasing a phone but the return thing is a great thing for them.. we pay 35 bucks (lame) to return a phone, they in-turn use those phones as replacements when we break our phones . they have a gold mind going and i for sure wont be paying them anymore money than i already will be doing in the future.

Patience is a virtue, a damn good one at that.
