Verizon Finally Adopting Google Messaging!

Turn Off RCS "Chat" when you switch phones, or Else. I just read an article in Droid Life regarding the Chat feature in Google Messages. For a no-issue transition from a current phone with Chat enabled to a new phone, turn the Chat feature off on the old phone first. Otherwise there could be a huge delay in getting all of your messages.

I just switched from a pixel 1 to a 3xl without turning RCS Chat off and it enabled automatically and is working great. I'm on AT&T and I haven't turned my pixel 1 back on since I switched phones, probably about a month ago, if that makes any difference ;) I only use RCS with my wife... not really a big deal either way, although I do like the typing/read/delivered indicators. And the new encryption with the small padlock by the message is kinda reassuring :p

Yeah, you're absolutely right. And other parts of the world, they've abandoned SMS texting completely. However, in United States of America, the situation is the exact opposite unfortunately. Hahaha.
Other parts of the world are more heavily restricted in what they are allowed to say, so for them the switch was out of necessity. We have the luxury of being able to say pretty much whatever we want. Countries that switched to other services did so because of governments monitoring texts and citizens needing encrypted services to get around restrictions and regaining their privacy.

Oh, got you. I had no idea that that was the reasoning behind at all. Thanks for the info! I feel bad for others in the world where their governments monitor what they're actually talking about.

Don't get me wrong, I know we get monitored quite a bit in the U.S. as well. That's a topic all in its own that would be best suited for the politics forum, but it's sufficient to say that while I may be monitored in some way for actual crimes, I could give them a giant middle finger and there's nothing they can do about it. Other countries may cut that finger off or worse.
