Verizon Galaxy Note 2 - What have you noticed about 4.3?

Ok, I finally got it to save backup. I did reboot and its tons better. Crisp and fast like it was before the 4.3 update.

This is what I did when the OTA first came out, and it was like a new phone.

I've noticed that moving apps to sd feature is basically useless. Doesn't free up much space at all.

I frees upspace that can make your phone run more efficient.

Slow. Very slow since I did the 4.3 OTA update. What can I do to bring my speed back. Especially when toggling between 2 apps. Very sluggish. I didn't have this problem prior to the update. And no. I'm not rooted, just in case someone is wondering. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any good backup app recommendations? Would like to backup whatever I can before upgrading to 4.3

Thanks

Helium is really only option if not rooted

So Titanium is no good for those of us that are not rooted? I will look Into Helium. I appreciate everyone's input

(Sorry I haven't really checked or ever used back up apps before)

There is a lag between the time I tap the app and when it opens. There is also a lag between the time I exit and app and when it closes. It's noticeable but not yet irritating.
Here are my issues since the update and I would love to find a solution/work around:

Auto correct is now changing words I type. It used to merely suggest possible words above the keyboard and I would mostly ignore them. Now it's taken over. I've turned off auto-correct in the keyboard setting and it is still doing it. I had to turn off predictive text to get it to stop auto-replacing, but I liked having the suggestions because it had learned my words and saved me some typing time.

I used to be able to forward a text via text to another contact. This came in handy, for example, when I was in a meeting and the boyfriend wanted to know if the dog walker had been by yet. I could open her text, click it once to chose the individual message, then tap the page button and choose forward message. That option is gone. I find its disappearance inconvenient.

Google maps is now stupid, but that may have happened before the updates. It no longer overlays street names until you zoom in too tight to follow the navigation.

Aesthetically, I'm not a fan of the font change...to the lock screen in particular...the security dots remind me of puppy nipples. I like big dots. :D

It cant do rooted actions (like backup the apk file) but it works fine on non-rooted devices.

Exactly. It even backs up most of your homepage icons/shortcuts.

It was on sale in the last couple of weeks for 50% off- no idea if it still is.

Re: What have you noticed about 4.3?

Ummm, well I moved a lot of my apps to the SD card and noticed that the icons on the home screens went grey with a little "sd" on them... very odd. And of course, some of those grey sd icons tell me that the app is not found. Really? So, one might think...well not a Android OS odd thing, but poorly written apps. Ok... I went to my Note 3 (which of course has a slightly different rev of 4.3), with the same apps... I moved some of these to the sd card... yeap no grey sd icons.... yeap no issues... yeap same apps... yeap same move method using the app manager... YEAP ODD.

You have to delete the icon and replace it with a fresh one from the apps menu. Not weird at all though.

In the end, Yes... I rebuilt the grey sd ones... Weird/Odd? Well, IMHO, I believe so... I say this from comparison of the same process of moving apps to the SD with my Note III. Granted the two important points are that the Note III is different hardware and is running the N900...MJE base version of 4.3... and the Note II is on I605...MJ9. The point being, I did not have to delete and replace the icons on the Note III

It's not a show stopper by no means, but it is "odd"? -It's one of those- "gee not all 4.3 versions of the OS/Hardware act and do the same thing... the same way" moments :)

Didn't your Note III come with 4.3 already installed? If so, that's why you see the difference. The update process caused the symptom and sounds totally normal to me.

Actually, no. The Note III OTA'ed a while back to ...MJE (yes it did come with 4.3, but an older rev of 4.3) and the OTA update to 4.3 of the Note II did not cause the grey sd icons... Moving the apps from main memory to the sd card causes the odd icons... and if you tap the icon too soon... as a bonus you get a app not found (got love that :) ).

Who knows... maybe the app/icon indexing code is not tuned well for smaller hardware....

Re: What have you noticed about 4.3?

What have I noticed? I've noticed that my WIFI is very sketchy, my BT is VERY slow to connect to anything, my battery is draining (most likely to the WIFI constantly connecting) and Verizon (who has known about these issues for some time) still has no fix from Samsung. Yea! :(
