Verizon Galaxy S III preorders shipping July 9?

I called Verizon they said there was no guarantee they could grandfather my unlimited data plan - apparently it will depend on when i activate the phone (not preorder date) - most likely verizon will introduce the new policies by then :(

I also talked to a Best Buy guy today who said the S3 would be there on the 6/28

But there's not really an activation process, you just stick a SIM in..

Legally, I don't understand why they would go from activation date and not a "renewal" date, unless that's how renewal is defined in their terms.

Does anybody know if they charge sales tax on the full retail price everywhere in California? I know if I go into the Verizon store, they do. I was told it's a state law, but a friend on Sprint just got the EVO 4G LTE at Walmart and only paid tax on the sale price. I'm trying to figure out what the cheapest option is.

Thanks.

Wal-Mart and Sam's Club charge tax on the sale price. I can't remember what Costco charges, but I believe it's on the full price. Cheapest route is Amazon Wireless / Wirefly. No tax for both + the phone will be slightly cheaper. AT&T's One X is $174.99 right now on Amazon Wireless.

Edit: Costco charges tax on the "retail price" of the phone. For example, their One X retails for $249.99, so you will be taxed on that price.

Are the other carriers shipping this phone at the same time as verizon, sooner, or later?

Just wondering cause verizon recent history shows they like to delay every release for some reason. Probably to make sure all 25+ bloatware apps are installed. I like the sg3 but am going to wait till november when the new nexus phones are announced, and if i don't like the specs by then the sg3 will be half off in time for new phones coming out, like the new nexus lines

Believe the contract doesn't start until you actually activate the phone and agree to the terms. I bought a phone for my dad and myself a couple years ago. The upgrade eligibility date on his was a couple days after mine since we didn't activate it until 2 or 3 days after I actually bought it.

I was told I would keep my unlimited data as well when doing the preorder

This is the most convoluted release I've seen in a while.

I pre-ordered at Best Buy. They had a sweet deal earlier in the year: $50 off any new phone just for registering your number.

While doing this the girl helping me had no clue what she was doing, it was fun to watch at least. She never said anything about my plan other than asking if I was up for an upgrade. The unlimited will still be carried over even getting it at BB, right? Verizon isn't making it for whoever pre-ordered at a Verizon store gets to carry it over, correct?

Do you think it might make sense to wait for amazon to carry it since verizon has such a late shipping date?

Well so much for that. Apparently the jack wagons at Verizon on monday who told me the double data promo goes until the 15th didn't completely read their freaking e-mail.

Went in a half hour ago and was told nope the double data is done. WOT? Apparently the promo that pertains to extending out to the 15 is for Comcast customers only. Which I am one, but it wouldn't matter since the phone won't show up until into July.

*shrugs* I guess I'm staying with Sprint. Verizon lost a potential customer, as if they care about 1 account.

Any good reason to believe a 3rd party retailer will have the phone before the carrier without selling by mistake? Just wondering because most likely, the availability for everyone will most likely be the same. 3rd party retailers in most cases on sell a device ahead of the carrier when they aren't supposed to.

Re: Best Buy June 28 ...

We'll see. ...

Keep in mind that the changeover to Family Data won't be quite the same as the transition to tiered data was. Tiered data was a step backward for new customers, and not a good sign for the rest of us, but didn't really affect existing customers with smartphones. However, Family Data is actually good for new customers (compared to single line tiered), and may benefit a number of existing subscribers as well (just not those like us).

Given the ignorance of the average consumer, I would expect Verizon can make this sound appealing to new subscribers, which is where they expect to make most of their money. They really don't stand to make much extra from existing subscribers with this change, in fact a bit less. A family of 2-4 users each with a $30 data plan pays an extra $120 a month for their smartphones, and if none of them are heavy data users (which carriers insist most aren't), they will be able to save money by switching to a data "bucket" of between 6 and 10 gb's, which will almost certainly cost less than $120 a month.

So I would think that from Verizon's point of view, this switch will actually be attractive by itself to a number of customers, so the switch alone would be reason for a new advertising push. They could keep new subscription numbers high by advertising the S3 heavily now and after launch, then launch the Razr HD and attract even more customers, then switch to Family Data a few weeks later, "attracting" new customers with a shared data plan using one of the hot new phones they'll already have heard about. This is what I see as a likely scenario, launch the S3, Razr HD 2-3 weeks later, then go to Family Data late July/early August right before their Back 2 School promotions. Then launch a version of the One X as a follow-up to the Rezound soon after.

Of course that's all speculation, and the caveat here is the rather obvious fact that Verizon clearly wants to have as few subscribers on unlimited data as possible. If they truly wanted everyone to see this as beneficial, they wouldn't force people to change to it upon upgrading after a certain point. Whenever they switch, it will gain new subscribers, but makes existing subscribers not wish to renew after the date, allowing them to switch to other carriers. Having some great new phone options come out just before the date encourages a lot of existing subscribers to upgrade now and lock in at least another 2 years rather than going to another carrier, not to mention the rush of upgrades would look great on their quarterly statement.

I guess it all comes down to how much VZW really thinks they're losing on unlimited data subscribers, and whether they would rather have as few on unlimited as possible, or keep as many subscribers as they can for at least another 2 years.

Bottom line, they won't make a change without announcing the date first, even if its only 2 weeks notice, and I see no reason why we can't wait till then to preorder, or buy the phone if its out by then. Here's to hoping I can burn my 2 upgrades and have an SGS3 and a Razr HD before the switch!

Do you know that if you sold it on ebay or craigslist you could get *at least* twice that amount for your Bionic? Assuming it's in decent condition, ofc.

Can somebody please get to the bottom of the grandfathered in business, verizon rep told me no problem for the preorder as far as keeping unlimited data. I preordered at best buy thinking "no problem". Now droid dog says preorders guarantee unlimited data on verizon. I called two bestbuys to be sure, one said your good if you already have unlimited data, the other said no way verizon already changed their policy. What is going on. Does anybody have the correct information. Do I need to cancel and preorder through verizon or don't bother because either way I'm screwed.

The correct answer is that vzw will do what ever they want and we will stay with them. We are all over this forum about keeping unlimited data, and vzw is counting its pennies deciding on when they are gonna screw us us again.

Even if they stopped grandfathering us into unlimited data no one would switch and vzw knows it. Its all a matter of time.

sorry bro
