Well......I tried again this morning and voila! IT WORKS! With voice commands!

Here's what I'm running.

Android Auto App Version 1.1.069961(1897800-release)

Google Play Services 7.5.71 (1955121-438)
I deleted cache in GPS, uninstalled updates, then updated through GPS.

On another note, I did this with my original Samsung USB3 charging cable.

Auto then prompted me to go through the set-up process..........I almost teared up!

WORKS GREAT!

Now.....let's hope it continues.

Now I'm getting this screen. I better not need to actually find the parking brake wire.

Is it for a 4100NEX? I'm on an 8100NEX, brake wire grounded, video bypass activated with SET ON.

Yes mine is for the 4100nex. I read somewhere yours doesnt even need an actual bypass. You hold your finger on the screen on a certain area and it turns on the bypass. I need to look for it.

Here you go:

Did some research on the new NEX 8000. By useing the old pioneer quadrant technology you can bypass the in motion safety shutdown.

Step 1 ground parking brake wire

Step 2 turn power on push main menu button (bottom center)

Step 3 push AV icon (bottom center)

Step 4 on AV icon screen push off button (towards bottom)

Step 5 touch quadrant 4 (half inch in and half inch up from left lower corner of touch screen) hold your finger there for about 10-12 seconds. "set on" icon will appear that means you are done.

Enjoy Safely

This is exactly what I have done. I have even verified that it works by testing a DVD with the SET ON versus SET OFF.
But Android Auto still thinks I need to be parked.

Hmmm maybe GPS is telling it something, turning it off and then trying to connect just to get through setup maybe?

I think I might just need to get the microbypass as used on the AVH models to set up Android Auto. My car is definitely parked. I really don't care about the video bypass as much, I don't even think this model actually locks out NAV and Bluetooth functions while in motion, just video. However, if I can avoid fishing out the actual parking brake wire I would prefer to do that. I wish there was a way to tell if the unit was actually completely grounded.

I don't know what I did, but I went back in there, redid the tap into ground. Still couldn't get anything to launch until I was putting everything back together. I went through set up, and Android Auto actually launched.

Only now.... no matter how many times I touch that voice control microphone icon it doesn't prompt me to do or say anything.

Jpcsoccer is having the same problem with his s4. Not sure if a factory restore fixed it or not.

Factory reset didn't help me.
Can everyone who has a working S4 or S5 list which version of Google Now, Maps, and Play Music they are using?
I'm guessing that the issue stems from Google Now not getting the permission it needs to do certain things.

Same problem with my VZW GS5 and 4100NEX. Please let me know if/how you resolve it!

I was right. It was a security issue.

Make sure your SE Linux settings are up to date.
Go into "About Phone" from Settings.
Check the following entry: SE For Android Status

If the date listed is less than May 11 2015, update it by going into Settings > Security > Security Policy Updates and "Check for updates".

Proceed to update security and go back into Android Auto in your vehicle afterward.

LOL. So I got an email from Google. It's now official:

"You recently submitted feedback to Google about compatibility issues, and we are following up to let you know that your Samsung mobile device is now compatible with Android Auto.

A recent update for Samsung mobile devices should now allow you to connect and use the Android Auto app on your phone.

One more tip - If you still have any issues with voice search, you may need to install security updates. Here's how:

On your phone, open Settings.

Touch Security > Security policy updates.

Touch Check for updates. Then install the available updates.

For any additional feedback please submit through the Android Auto app.

Best,

Android Auto Team"

Just saw this posted on APK mirror :

Android Auto 1.1.075280 (1990467-release)
Uploader's notes:
This is the only new bit today:
• Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5 on AT&T, Sprint and Verizon now compatible.

So now it's really official. I think the May 5 version of the app technically worked, as long as you had Google Play Services 7.5.71 and the most recent SELinux security policy.
