Verizon Galaxy S6 jumps from 4G to 1X when making a call.

Actually on AT&T you can use voice and data without VoLTE or an additional radio because we are not on an inferior cell service like CDMA and use a more modern GSM radios that can do both.

Verizon will go fully LTE in the future and drop CDMA completely. AT&T will stick with what works like in Europe and on T-Mobile who also don't need additional radios or VoLTE in order to use both voice and data at the same time. We are well past the thunderbolt days and maybe you need to brush up on the latest technology.

I had the same issue with the Galaxy S6 dropping from 4g to 1x even after activating the advances calling feature but what did work was I took it back to the Verizon Wireless store and they changed the SIM card and we tested it in the store and it now works perfectly hope this helps

I have the same problem and I do have advanced calling on 😠

So, my phone is doing the same thing but I DO have the advanced calling settings enabled. It also is fluctuating between 4g and 3g today and yesterday when not on a call I called and there is no outage in my area... what do I do?

I have had my galaxy s6 now for several months. About a month into owning it all calls would go to 1x. This just happened all of a sudden. Had to enable advanced calling to get back to 4G. However it stills switches back to 1x every now and then. It drops more calls than my old at&t phone service. Thats why I switched to verizon. But now this phone has some of the most terrible phone service of any. They have tried fixing it by having me try different things. Just once can't you buy a phone that just works! Why can't we get the great signal strength and reception we had with the old bag phones. If this keeps up I will return to the old flip phones. At least they worked.

I have a Telstra phone in Australia and my phone without fail always switches from 4G to 3G coverage when I'm on the phone and then immediately switches back to 4G coverage once I get off the phone which is annoying because the battery drains like no tomorrow on 3G coverage and to my knowledge Australia doesn't have the advanced calling settings

My phone started doing this issue today, out of the blue, even though volte is turnt on. I guess I will be going to the Verizon store tomorrow to complain about this issue and hear what BS they will feed me. SMDH

They may be having an issue in your area. It is a newish feature so they could be tinkering some.

I hope so, this is the absolute worst. I really hope that either VZ or Sammy can fix this issue.

It will mainly be a VZW fix -- Sammy only does what they say to do. This is all in regards to their network and technologies they use.

Quick question on this topic. I am having the same issue as many of you. I don't mind switching to advanced calling but my concern is that I will lose my Verizon grandfathered unlimited data plan. Won't this classify as a change to the account and than it will kick me off the grandfathered plan in their billing system?

It will not. Since this is an "Add On" feature it won't mess with anything. Just like if you went to add HotSpot to your UDP it wouldn't effect your account. The Add On costs $0.00 a month.

I am not much of a tech savy person so in simple terms can you try and tell me if I should activate advanced calling or not?

I trust that the unlimited data package won't be affected. Currently when I call people it goes from 4G to 1X and I can't hear the phone dialing unless speaker is on. Even than, when they answer, they say they can barely hear me.

Do you have a strong LTE signal? Basically Advanced calling routes all calls through LTE like it does data. If you have good LTE where you are at the Advanced Calling could possibly help.

I say give it a shot -- if it doesn't work out you can always remove the feature and go back to how you are now.

I have lived in the same location in NJ all my life and never had this problem. I usually have full bars and full data strength. This just started happening roughly last week.

Also, I just went through the activation and it prompted me saying the following features would be removed because they aren't compatible:

Ringback Tones: $0.99
Decline HD Voice: $0.00

I didn't even know I had ringback tones nor do they come up when people call me. Anyways, won't this count as a change to the bill and now I will lose my grandfathered unlimited data plan?

It won't since they're just feature changes. I believe you only lose unlimited if you upgrade your phone (through contract or "Edge" with Verizon). I will get one of our guys who uses Verizon to explain more.
