Verizon Gear S2 (When you Receive it or Don't Thread)

I'm also getting the watch but am thinking about selling it. I'm not thrilled that it only uses the Samsung appreciate store and not the Google play store.

The Samsung gear app is in the Google Play store. It is functional without using the Samsung store.

You're saying you ordered this without realizing it wasn't an Android Wear based watch? Honestly, I would give it a good chance. I got my S2 classic a couple weeks ago, and I'm very pleased with how it works and what it is capable of. I would give it an honest try before giving up on it. Trying to replace your phone with a small screen that has "all the apps" isn't what it's cracked up to be, and the Gear doesn't try to be that. It does what it does, and it does it very well.

I actually ordered it because getting a free $350 items is a better value than getting a free $99 item. I've been carrying a smart phone in my pocket since around 2000 and haven't worn a watch much. I do see the appeal of wearing one that I can get alerts on without having to take it out of my pocket all the time. Not sure what I'm gonna do. Thanks for your view point, I'll keep it in mind.

My preference is the Google Play store over just the Samsung store.
Well it is a Samsung phone. Some functionality will require the Samsung store like Samsung pay, themes, edge panel downloads, aod downloads, gear vr, gear watch...

I just checked the FedEx manager, and if it's coming from BRIGHTPOINT C/O TIME WARNER, then I should be getting the package on Tuesday.

Everything you mentioned is available via the Google play store.

Guess I should have checked first. But not all of them. Gear vr, Edge panel downloads, aod downloads, themes are through the Samsung store.
Samsung pay and Samsung gear is in the play store.

I don't think this is correct. I thought it was confirmed multiple places that it doesn't have to be connected. I at least had that confirmed from a few different Verizon reps. I don't see how they can force you to do that unless they charge you when you place the original order. It MAY be the 3G version but I believe the watches basic features will work without a plan.

It comes activated already

It has arrived! Looks like it works as BT, but you can activate it as a 3G device for an extra $5 a month. Just got it so I'll continue with the BT until I need to activate it.

So it seems you have the option to activate but it's not required? I ask because I don't want to pay the monthly fee and was worried I didnt have a choice

Yeah. From what I'm noticing, if you don't mind BT, you can keep it on that. It still prompts you to activate when you restart. I just hit the X. If you want to make calls, etc away from your phone, you need to activate it. I've gotten notifications and have sent pics to the watch without issue thus far.

I don't see a ton of value with activating it. At least that warrants $5 a month. Am I missing something?

On Verizon and some of the other carriers, there is the ability to auto call forward from your cell phone to the watch when the phone is out of range from the watch. So if you like to run, for example, you can leave your phone behind and still receive phone calls without giving your watches phone number out.
Going out for the evening and don't want to carry your cell phone? Just leave the phone behind and use the watch.

Got mine today. Kind of worried. I charged it completely......then after about 2 hours......it was ready to die.

Charging it again. I must be doing something wrong. Ill check out videos and posts. This shouldnt be happening.

I submitted on 3/9 prize logic site still has approved/date pending. Fedex/ups/usps all show nothing on route to me. No emails beyond my acceptance email on the 9th. Not sure what to do. Seems like calling prize logic is a long waste of time. Feeling frustrated that people after me have got theirs or at the very least have notification on their fedex my deliveries page.

Got mine around noon with about 60% battery. I have around 24 things sending notifications, I've sent texts, played with watch faces, ran with it and played basketball. I've been messing with it non-stop and just hit 10%. Gonna give it a full charge and probably test the sleep monitoring. Will let you know tomorrow how it goes.
