Verizon Gear S2 (When you Receive it or Don't Thread)

Yeah. From what I'm noticing, if you don't mind BT, you can keep it on that. It still prompts you to activate when you restart. I just hit the X. If you want to make calls, etc away from your phone, you need to activate it. I've gotten notifications and have sent pics to the watch without issue thus far.

Do you or anyone else know if I DON'T active it, can I still use it to make/receive calls when the phone is near by?

Ignore my last post. I figured out that it can make/receive calls without activating the cell service as long as the phone is within BT range.

So it seems you have the option to activate but it's not required? I ask because I don't want to pay the monthly fee and was worried I didnt have a choice

yes and no. If you have an unlimited account or older account type activating will force a plan change.

I don't see a ton of value with activating it. At least that warrants $5 a month. Am I missing something?

Only valuable if you want to your watch to be un-tethered... so some, including me, see this as the holy grail and any smart watch w/out it's own 3G is not so much worth having on 'the' wrist.

Got mine today. My plan was to turn around and sell it as I have a Pebble Time, but my curiosity got the best of me and I took it out and started playing with it. Much thicker than Pebble and a little heavier but the screen is awesome! Need to spend some time with it to see if I want to keep it. My wife just shakes her head at me for opening up the S2.

I received a Gear S2 guys. However, I received it from the same day as my phone replacement from Asurion. I don't know who sent it to me now. The claim still says pending. Where did you guys get yours from? My send was Plainfields Return center. The box also says Verizon on it. What do you guys think?

I've had mine for a few days now and it still says 4/8. I also got another email saying my claim was accepted and I should be receiving the S2 in May 2016? A lot of strange things going on.

My shipping label was printed 4/8 and delivery stated today 4/12 but there is not movement showing on the package

Yes, I've had mine for a week now. I was saying that I got another email saying it was coming in may and they never updated my shipping status on the site. To this day, it still says 4/8 for the shipping estimate.
