Verizon getting ripped apart on FaceBook

If anyone is switching carriers because of a phone, it is their decision. Who would I be to judge other people for their decisions and calling them dumb or such. Maybe I am dumb for sticking with Verizon and waiting for this phone.

2/10s huh? your math skills look on par with your people skills and ability to understand corporate business. hand of one, hand of all!!!

LOL!! He was probably trying to say 2/10th through the year or 2/12th through the year... and mathematically, it would be 1/5th or 1/6th.

I've said this in another thread, and I'll say it again here. When I walk up to a a VZW CORPORATE store and ask "Is the Thunderbolt still a big secret, or..." and two employees say "24th!" in unison,

And today is February 27th. We've been aware since the date of our sales kick off (February 9th) that Best Buy was going to start selling them on the 24th, but all along, nary a date has been given to us.

do you seriously feel VZW has no duty whatsoever to come out with statement to inform the buying public as to why one of their biggest retail partners may have crossed the line and released dates unapproved by VZW. if they truly did not release a date to BB then why not say something? they could avoid all of the negativity.

Not sure how long you have been a Verizon customer, but have you ever seen Verizon Wireless, or any other carrier for that matter, come out and make any kind of statement about a phone release when there was not a concrete date given in the first place? Although your world is centered around this phone, and indeed it is a first for us, the percentage of total customers that will be buying this phone is very low. It's a breakthrough device, but it's going to be followed by many others this year. It's not as substantial of a release in the grand scheme of things as it is to the relatively small percentage of users who will buy it.

its their brand! its their phone! i dont care who released what info, when they did it, or how it was done. if i was leading the troops there, i would have damn sure released something by now. even if it was worst case scenario.

to our valued customers, their have been wild rumors circulating around the internet and amongst our diehard fans that the release was to be in february. we wanted to make sure people understand that VZW has released no information contrary to our initial statement of a second quarter release. we know people are getting very anxious and we are anxious to get it to you.

I'd be very interested to know how old you are. And seriously..............seriously......................have you even seen ANY carrier make any kind of announcement like this regarding a phone?

I REPEAT, Best Buy, the AUTHORIZED retailer came out with an official statement at the beginning of the month announcing mid-February release. For a customer AUTHORIZED means OFFICIAL. The statement is still on Best Buy website.

You mean, Best Buy, "AN" authorized retailer, not "THE" authorized retailer. Best Buy is one of many. If you can differentiate between Verizon and Best Buy being two separate companies, that's your problem.

Normally I'd agree with you, but not in this case. Verizon deviated from their normal routine with the TB, in that they started to heavily promote a phone before a solid release date was known.

Even the iPhone launch had a set release date when VZW finally acknowledged it.

It's not in VZW's best interest to do what they are doing with the TB launch. By teasing it's customers with a phone like a TB without a firm launch date, all of it's customers with upcoming contract renewals in the market for an android device who might have otherwise gotten a D2 or a Droid X or Incredible, being none the wiser of the Thunderbird coming down the pike, are now sitting on the sidelines and waiting, having been tipped off by big Red that a super cool device is waiting in the wings. I'm not surprised at the negative reaction they are garnering; they have earned every bit of it.

What they effectively did was made life much harder for the salespeople in the VZW stores, who are trying to sell phones today to people who only want to know when they should be coming back for the Thunderbird.

A word of advice Verizon: Either give us a launch date or keep your mouth shut about upcoming devices until you're prepared to share its launch date. This way you can let the tech blogs and conspiracy theorists hash it out and venting their frustrations at each other instead of everyone venting their frustration out on you.

Excuse me, sir. I beg to differ in this case. Best Buy is one of the many - normally. But for Thunderbolt, Best Buy has the exclusive retailership. On February 7, Best Buy released the following statement, the title of which screams "Best Buy? Announces National Retail Exclusive and Pre-Sale Availability of the HTC ThunderBolt"

The second sentence in the statement reads: "The HTC ThunderBolt, which will launch in mid-February as a national retail exclusive for Best Buy..."

Here is the full statement: Best Buy® Announces National Retail Exclusive and Pre-Sale Availability of the HTC ThunderBolt – BBY.com

Once again, you and I have two different perspective. Unlike you, I am no insder. I am just a common consumer.

And yes, it is MY PROBLEM that I can NOT differentiate much between an "exclusive retailer" and Verizon Wireless. In my point of view, which I believe is shared by most common consumers like me, "exclusive retailer" holds some weight.

If I remember correct, there was extensive publicity surrounding a couple of other of phones not so far in the past. With all due respect, it's one of the most hilarious parts of my career, seeing grown adults this worked up over...........a phone. There's a certain German car I've been waiting to buy forever, and I've seen spy photos of this vehicle for nearly a year and a half. So car.............phone...........much more substantial purchase. I've not once called a dealership or flipped out on a discussion group about the company not supplying any info on this vehicle. When companies are ready to release it, they will do so. It's not the end of the world.

Just wondering, how many times have you contacted Best Buy for their take on this?

I have a feeling your stance on the car would be different if all of the dealerships starting taking preorders and telling you that the car would be available a week later, then didn't have it in stock two weeks after that and continued to give you different availability dates each time you asked about it.

I suppose you'd say to yourself, "That's OK, the dealership can keep my money and I'll wait indefinitely for the manufacturer to announce when I can pick up my new car."

I wouldn't and haven't put any money down on any product that is currently not available.

I sell cars and people want to preorder the plug in Prius and since we don't have a release date we CAN NOT take their money.

why do want to know how old i am? there are many on here that share the same sentiment.

first off, this was just an example. second i have seen dozens of big companies release statements as to delays in products, i have seen dozens of big companies put an end to wild rumors and speculations. i dont remember any other carrier doing this ever but i also dont know of any other carrier partnering with one of the largest if not the largest electronics retailers in the country for the most ****ed up release in history!

also, you are forgetting, shortly after the BB announcement, VZW did tease us with a sooner, rather than later tweet.

also, i cant imagine ANY carrier NOT defending their name if another very large corporation BB caused so much negative publicity by guessing on a release date. this right here is proof enough to me VZW was POSITIVELY involved in the initial release date with BB. to think BB was justing hoping it would be out, is ludicrous. if they did, it is unimaginable that VZW would not release at least a small statement setting the record straight.

At this point, I think that it is fruitless to continue a discussion with someone who refuses to see any other point of view other than his own.
