I think if you tell them outright and say you know they don't have to change it (like they'll lead you to believe) the can't say no. Well I guess they can but you should walk.

I just I double checked - if you already have the unlimited data plan, you can keep it if you buy through Amazon Wireless.

I know Costco & other 3rd party retailers often won't let you keep your existing plan. I would've bought my thunderbolt from Costco, and gotten a few free accessories, but I would've had give up my unlimited data & my promo priced unlimited talk & text plan that I convinced VZW to give me a couple years ago - even though they were only offering it to new customers... with normal use, I'd be paying almost 3x what I pay now for data, had I purchased from anyone but VZW. And calling in got me a better deal than negotiating in store did

This is incorrect. You can buy a phone at Costco and keep your existing data plan.

I bought my GN @ Best Buy last week, using an upgrade, and kept my unlimited plan with VZW. Perhaps I got lucky but, the very helpful salesperson said that was standard.

Both my wife and I kept our prior unlimited plans. I got mine at a Vzn store, she upgraded to a 4S online Verizon.

Q: If I take advantage of this offer, can I keep my unlimited data plan transfer with the purchase of a Samsung Nexus Galaxy handset?

A: Not all grandfathered data plans will transfer. Generally speaking if an existing unlimited data plan is attached to a smartphone chances are it will transfer to the new device.

Q: How do I know if my data plan will transfer when I take advantage of this offer?

A: When you choose "Keep An Existing" plan for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, our customer support team will review orders where the data plan is not compatible. Before any change are made you your account, the customer support team will contact you regarding the details. You can choose to cancel the order or a different data plan option.

Thanks for all the advice! I'm just going with my gut I think, and wait to do an upgrade at a Verizon store. That $89 deal is SO tempting though. I don't want to risk my grandfathered data plan, otherwise I probably would have grabbed it. Who knows how long they'll honor my old plan, but I won't be the one removing it. I come close sometimes to the 2 gig cap since I like to stream audio while I ride my bike. ((I just need more spring time weather!!)

How much is Verizon data? Someone said you can get 4GB for $30, which sounds too good to be true. ATT is 2gb for $20, 3gb for 30.

Right now they are having a Double the Data promotion for 4G phones only - so you get 4GB for $30. Don't know when the promo will end.

When you buy a contract phone with an Operating System, Android OS Apple OS BlackBerry OS Symbian OS Web OS Windows OS, you also have to get a data plan. When you upgrade at Best Buy you do have to choose a data plan that they now offer. We would not be able to keep your old data plan. The only way you can process an upgrade or new line is to choose a data plan. This is true no matter how you buy a phone from Best Buy, whether it be online instore or over the phone.

I had an incident (not my fault) a rep by accident removed my unlimited data. Didn't realize it for a month when I went to pay the bill. Verizon gave me a hard time for it and after the 3rd supervisor was involved it was changed back.

So bottom line... it can always be put back if anything goes wrong.

This is the sort of thing I wanted to avoid. Unclear polices from 3rd parties. Thanks for posting this, I feel better in my decision with waiting for a Verizon sale.

i upgraded to the nexus from the incredible 1 on vzw.com, and had to chose a tiered option, then called verizon and they gave me back unlimited.

That shouldn't happen. My wife upgraded to an iPhone4S on VZW.com and she kept her unltd data. She may have spoken to a rep to make sure though.

FYI, I got my Nexus yesterday from letstalk.com (21hrs after ordering w/ free overnight shipping). Smooth as a baby's behind with keeping my data plan. Saved $50 off of VZW upgrade price.

But if you have issues with that device you have to deal with LetsTalk for warranty and/or replacement. LetsTalk has proven to be hard nosed at times. I'd rather pay the extra fifty and deal with Verizon.

I have purchased from Amazon Wireless in the past and never an issue with them.
