This question I am actually asking for my Ex, who owns a Palm Pre Plus on Verizon. So while this is not an Android question directly, I figured since I've so far liked all the help this community gives, I'd ask here first before creating an account over at precentral.net just for one quesion. Anyways, She just recently got the phone and would like me to help set it up nicely for her. When she signed up, she declined to add Verizon's Navigator monthly service for 9.99 a month. My question is, can she still use GPS for other applications? Such as she likes to run, and I know they have jogging apps that keep stats for you based on GPS. Can she use this under her Data Plan? Or would she need to have signed up for the 9.99 a month plan that Verizon offers for Navigator?

I wasn't sure if that 9.99 a month was strictly for their turn by turn directions, or if you need that for any use at all of the GPS.

From other Verizon users, the VZ Navigator is for turn by turn directions.

I have a Droid on the Verizon network, and I did not sign up for Verizon Navigator either. I have complete access to the Droid GPS and she can use something like MyTracks from Google

Yes she can use the GPS for free as long as the app she is using doesn't charge for it. The 9.99 charge is for use of the Navigator app itself, not the GPS unit or its signal. The app, if she uses any, while it may or may not be free for her may still use data which would fall under the data plan she is on.

Agree, there is no charge for using the GPS itself, it was only for the Navigator app. If she does not use Navigator, she should not be charged.

Thanks so much for the replies guys. Thats what I was hoping. I always appreciate the quick and good responses from this community. Thank you :)

be cautious though, VZ Navigator does not have to use GPS, it maybe useing the location service. I had VZ Navigator on a phone with out GPS support.
