Verizon HTC One M8 Lollipop Update Thread

This update has messed up my phone..."Unfortunately, System UI has stopped." I also get, "Unfortunately, Verizon Login has stopped" as well. At this point it is an expensive paperweight. I went to Verizon and the manager restarted my phone and it did nothing. My options were pay $179 to upgrade or wait 1-2 days for a refurbished phone.

Ok ... weird ... Problems with WiFi Thurs after Wed update. Then WiFi worked fine Fri/Sat. Sunday same as Thurs and didn't play with it. Today:
On gateway 192.168.1.1 network I can access anything on the web normally.
On gateway 192.168.XX.X network I can access NYT, CBS News, Fox News, Drudge Report, USA Today, NetFlix, Sirius (ones I tried) and PlayStore but get a DNS failed to resolve error for local news sites, any blogs, Amazon (web or app) and any of my industry websites I need to use plus, my apps that use internet access return a failure to connect network error.

Maybe the gateway is just coincidence. Anyone have any ideas??

I just realized I can no longer initiate a Bluetooth call with the screen off. On KK, pressing the action button on my headset turned on the screen and the voice prompt would activate. Now it does absolutely nothing unless my screen is already on and post the lock screen.

I use my car's built-in bluetooth system for both calling and music. I had some issues when I was using some GPE Lollipop ROMs but I haven't had any issues using my current Sense-based ROM. Try adding the device as a "trusted device" so that it can keep the phone unlocked when the device is connected.

How do you add a trusted device on a lollipop M8? I don't see that option anywhere in the settings.

First, make sure you have Smart Lock enabled:

Settings>Security>Trust Agents (near the bottom) and then turn on Smart Lock (Google)

Then:

Settings>Security>Smart Lock (near the top)>Trusted Devices

From there you can add any remembered device as a Trusted Device.

I tried it and or didn't work for me. The headset still doesn't initiate a call with the screen off. I don't want Smart Lock either because I want my phone to lock when not in use. The old way was perfect. Because I drive for a living, I'm required to use a hands free device and that basically means I need one touch voice dialing. I can't pick up the phone, enter the pin number to unlock, then make the call. And because I'm in public places a lot, using Smart Lock could be a security risk anyway if the phone were picked up by someone else.

True, but again, I only use it for my car's built-in bluetooth system. When I turn my car off, the phone locks.

Not sure why it would force you to dial with screen-on. Sounds like the phone is going to sleep as soon as the screen shuts off instead of just turning the screen off, but I'm not sure.

Hey guys,

I recently updated my phone with the Lollipop update. After finishing the update my phone will no longer start. I did not wipe the cache before the update. After the update I reset my phone and wiped the cache and I am still having the same issue.

"Unfortunately, Verizon Login has stopped"

Any ideas?

I remember there used to be a setting that allowed Bluetooth devices to bypass the lock screen only when active, such as pushing the action button to make a call. Otherwise it would remain locked. Looks like that was replaced with Smart lock. Boo.

EDIT: I figured out it's a problem with the HTC Speak app. I had it set to default when it became a voice dial option after the update so I could test the voice recognition accuracy. It has a couple slightly annoying quirks, but the Google accuracy is garbage and figured it's worth a shot. Anyway, I tested with the Google app as default and it worked fine with the screen locked. Made Speak the default again and the problem returned. I tried clearing the Bluetooth Share app data after seeing it work on a similar problem in an old thread on here, but that didn't work either. I think I'll email HTC about it since it's a problem with their app.

Factory reset. Mine did same thing. I was planning to reset it anyways, so didnt bother me. Phone has been silky smooth since the reset.

Unfortunately, I am among the users that is experiencing a lot of difficulty with the Lollipop upgrade. Despite using the stock recovery, I was unable to update via OTA, so I had to connect my device via HTC Sync to upgrade. The upgrade process went fine and I wiped my cache after to make sure there were no issues.

I ignored the shoddy battery life for the first few days, but unfortunately it has persisted for the last week and a half, so I can only blame Lollipop for it now. Before I could get around 18 hours on a full charge, but now I can only get 12 hours if I am lucky. I have tried various battery-saving techniques, but it has changed nothing. "Android OS" seems to drain MUCH more power than it did under Kitkat.

In addition, I receive a popup EVERY SINGLE DAY about upgrading to Lollipop, despite the fact that I have already upgraded. The only options are to postpone the update for a day or I can install a root app that will disable OTA updates entirely, which is not exactly preferable. Apps in general run noticeably slower under Lollipop - I thought this was only going to last for a few days at most, but it is still prevalent and apps force close constantly. I can't stand having a phone that doesn't work any better (or have any better battery life) than my 4-year-old Xperia Play.

Needless to say, I will be flashing back to Kitkat ASAP. They obviously didn't finish/optimize this upgrade before they pushed it out. :'(

EDIT: I almost forgot: my phone is also overheating when charging (I wake up and get a warning message that the phone is overheating - yes, "never sleep while charging" is disabled), and it uses an obscene amount of data! "Android Operating System" has consumed over 900mb of data since upgrading to Lollipop and I can only use 1.6gb per month, so unless I switch back to KitKat I will also be going well over my data allotment for the month as well. =/

I updated at the end of last week and all went well. Overall performance was good and I was enjoying the benefits of the update. I plugged my phone in last night and woke up this morning to a phone that is dead. The battery full green light remains lit after reaching full charge during the night, even after I've removed it from the charger. The screen won't come on, the alarm didn't wake me this morning and it doesn't seem to be operating at all since it didn't connect to bluetooth in my car either. My phone is in exceptional condition otherwise, though about a year old. Anyone hear of issues like this? Not sure if this issue is related to the update or it just died.

I am having similar issues. Phone was perfect before upgrade. Hopefully there will be a fix.

Upgraded to lollipop. Since then battery life has degraded horribly. Phone was plugged in to charger overnight and never got above 80% charged. Also there are times when charging stops completely even though it is plugged in to the charger or the phone actually loses charge while plugged in but not in use. This was never an issue prior to the upgrade. I am also having latency and freezing issues as well as difficulty with texting applications along with sluggishness of touch screen response. My phone was perfect before this upgrade, no problems whatsoever with battery life. Have done a cache wipe and deleted unnecessary apps. Will give it day or so before doing a factory reset. I really wish I had stayed with Kit Kat.

Have you tried using a new USB cable? That's the usual culprit of lack of charging. Other possibilities are the charger itself or the us port. My port went out almost the same time as getting Lollipop and got a warranty exchange

I noticed today that for some reason there is a delay in my notifications after I updated to 5.0 and I was wondering if anyone else was having these issues? It seems when my phone locks itself no notifications come through, once I unlock it they will all come at once. I've checked all settings and don't see anything that would be delaying them, does anyone have suggestions?

So far lollipop has rendered my m8 unsyncable....phone not connected deal. It worked before with kit Kat. Sad! as I have a 50 mb video I must dl from camera to laptop.

I'm still running Kitkat, and i don't think i will ever upgrade to Lollipop
Sadly, I resisted as long as possible not to upgrade, but I took the plunge 3 days ago. And now I'm not the master of my domain. Verizon m8 with a cache wipe before and after lolligag 5.0.1
