Verizon HTC One M8 Lollipop Update Thread

I'm having issues with my phone. I updated to lolipop, after it optimized all the apps I kept getting pop up error messages that won't go away after clicking them... essentially rendering my phone useless. "unfortunately, system UI has stopped" and verizon login has stopped. I can click OK but it just keeps popping back up again.

That sucks. Try doing a system cache wipe first and if that doesn't work, you may need to do a factory reset. Make sure you back up your photos and what not.

Some of my contacts are missing that were under "Phone Contacts". I backed up all apps, photos, contacts etc, did a factory reset, then installed Lollipop. After I restored everything, it asked me if I wanted to merge duplicate contacts. I chose yes and it did it's thing and I continued with the other settings. A few hours later, I noticed I am missing at least 5 contacts. Under "Phonebook" I would have roughly about the same amount of contacts between "Google" and "Phone". Now I'm only showing 7 under "Phone". I tried restoring via Gmail but the missing contacts didn't show up. All else is fine, but....ugh.

Gesture Controls from lock screen changed?

Has anyone else noticed that the gesture controls are now limited to just swippimg up? Is this part of the update or is there an issue with my update?

All of my gesture controls still work after the update.

Just finished updating. Everything went perfect, zero problems. I'd say my phone is slightly faster and snappier now. All gestures work. Haven't noticed any problems so far.

I also got this, tried cache trick, nothing. So its a reset for me. Im ok doing it as I feel like my Nexus 7 needs one after the 5.0 update. Could use a nice clean install since its been since day I got the phone.

Anyone having problems with MMS on the stock messaging app? The connection setting was wiped, but when I re-enter the MMSC and try to save, nothing saves. I no longer can send an MMS message. Not happy.

I was also hesitant to update because sometimes change brings instability. I decided to give it a go and couldn't be more happy with the end result. I did not wipe cache, or factory reset. I accepted both updates and let the phone do it's thing. When it was finished...I messed with it for a minute, then restarted it. All is well and everything seems to be working as it should. I can't tell a difference in speed or smoothness....as it was pretty fast and smooth before the update. Gestures are working as they were before for me. Absolutely no complaints.

Got the update today about noon in Los Angeles.
I read the horror stories that everyone else appears to be having. Mostly on different devices.
But being an "IT" guy and android buff I pulled the trigger.
No trouble with anything. Texts/mms work fine. Email, browsers, music, videos, gps, wifi, phone conversations all work fine.
I do not have any lag.....
Although, my battery seems to be depleting rapidly.

It's been fine, did not do the factory reset. Had a problem but "clear credentials" did the job. I do like that an old "recent apps" came w/ 5.0 and it's a choice. Also like the drop down bar is not full black but instead clear. I don't particularly like the new face unlock as I don't know where my face is without it being shown.

An issue and maybe it's an app issue regarding notifications at the top. Maybe it's a isolated app issue unless it's happen to anyone else. Not a huge issue. And I tried w/ stock launcher.

I tried the update without doing anything special - no cache wipe, no factory reset - and it all seems to be running fine. A little lag at first, but much better after a simple reboot. Tomorrow will tell whether battery is any different than before.

One thing I've noticed after updating is that the phone runs with lower temperatures. Usually, when I was on KitKat, idle temperatures were around 80 F. Now, idle temperatures are around 70 and the lag earlier this afternoon seems to be gone. Will check back again tomorrow.

Seems my battery is draining as well. Just did a cache wipe. Let's see how it goes.

I'm having the MMS problem also.

MMS seems to be fine with me using hangouts.

I have had no slowness. Everything seems to be smooth. I can't say for the battery as I factory reset and have been plugged in since then to install and update all of my apps. Tomorrow will be the battery test for me.

I have noticed issues with two apps so far. Both apps would open but not load. Swiping them away and restarting them didn't work either. Eventually if I let them sit long enough they force closed and I was able to open them successfully the second time. Haven't had an issue opening them sense. These two apps were billguard and Facebook messenger. Not sure if that is going to be an app compatibility issue or a m8 update issue at this time. Anyone else experience something like that?

I haven't used the stock messaging app since I got the phone. I use Google Hangouts for my SMS, MMS, and Google Hangouts. I recommend that instead. The stock messaging app is fine, but Hangouts is better.

Try using Google Hangouts and enable MMS and SMS on it and make it your default messenger client. You can always go back in 5 seconds if you don't like it.

Facebook messenger was not working right for me either. However, it worked horribly for me and caused battery drain on KitKat, so I just uninstalled it again since I rarely use it anyway. I think that is Facebook's fault, not our phones.

I haven't got the update yet (and nothing in it really exciting me either from what I've read), but I'm currently on an older version of fb messenger. I'll try leaving it on and see if it works or not on lollipop, then report back.

First real issue I have run across, like pretty much every other lollipop update im experiencing some slight wifi issues. At home my wifi was perfect, never dropped, it was spot on. At work, where we have multiple access points that use the same SSID, im just sitting in one place and over the last hour it has disconnected and reconnected about 5 times. surprisingly though it did not affect anything i was doing at the time, but i wasn't actually loading a site or playing a video when it occurred either. it has been happening between those times. tapping my lock screen and having to swipe away the "connected to XXX wifi" notification a million times while at work is going to get pretty old though.
