Verizon HTC One (M8): SIM card error?

My husband and I both had the same problem. I called Verizon tech support, the fella on the other end wasn't aware of this problem so we just went down the standard list of fixes. I hut my phone off and restarted it. When I did, there was an update waiting to be installed. I did the update and haven't had the SIM card error again. Same with my husband. Hope it helps.

That sounds promising. Hopefully Verizon fixed it for good :).

I experienced this problem earlier today. I filed away the edges on the nano-sim and the problem has not recurred since. I've also research since then and there's a trick that is almost working for everyone; addind some layer of clear tape on the simcard.

I have the same problem with AT&T HTC one M7. I used the phone for 6 months. Now It suddenly show the preparing SIM card for no reason. The phone cannot make any calls at all.
I'm love the phone but it is not reliable and stable phone... so sad to give it away. There is no way to fix it?
No more problem, since the phone keep showing "preparing SIM card" the battery run out very fast. Usually my phone's battery could stay idle for 27 hrs, but now I have to charge it every 15 hrs... This is bad!

I have the same problem on Rogers; I can't use phone about 12 times per day at random times. Usually fixed after reboot.
I'm glad I found this thread and I hope someone can find a fix.
I thought it was my custom ROM causing the problem.

Ultimately I'm not sure what caused it or what got rid of it. But I haven't had the problem in about a year now.
