Just spoke to Fi support, but am not 100% confident in answer provided.

Scenario:
  • Purchase Pixel directly from Google.
  • Activate Fi .
  • After Fi is activated, insert SIM for working Verizon #.

  1. Does the phone download VZ programs when the Verizon SIM is installed? (Fi says yes)
  2. Can VZ software be removed and system updates come directly from Fi when SIM is switched back to Fi? (Fi says yes, but I'm skeptical given what I've read here)

Anyone done this, and what did you find?

1. Yes. It's the Verizon sim that prods the Pixel into downloading the three Verizon apps.
2. All three apps can be uninstalled. Updates (supposedly) come direct from Google, no matter what network you're on.

Thanks for the help everyone.

So, can the Verizon software be removed if the VZ SIM is installed first and then a Fi SIM, and does installing a VZ sim first change where the updates originate?

verizon apps can be removed no matter what sim u use and whatever order u use.

since u purchased the phone from google the update come directly from google and verizon has no control over it.
so me using ATT with google pixel is same as u using it with verizon except the vz apps that can be uninstalled

I don't have any verizon apps on my device. I brought mine off craigslist and activated on verizon.
