Verizon is nonchalant about 4G service going down, since it does

When I had a 3G phone, I never had problems with service...EVER. Now that I have a 4G phone, I have noticed that the 4G seems to go down almost every day, leaving me with an expensive 3G phone. Everyone knows that voice is tied to the 3G service, so it never goes down. It just seems like Verizon really doesn't care about the 4G service at all. They use it to sell phones, but when it comes to actually providing the service, they don't seem to care.

Is it the 4G LTE going down, or is it just the phone switching to 3G? In other words the phone and not the network. Here is why I ask.I have a 4G LTE Mifi and when I first got it the thing would switch all time from 4G to 3G. I did a google search and found out how to program the Mifi and turn the 3G off so that it wouldn't switch between them. So now it can't switch to 3G and I have not had 4G LTE go out on me at all. Keep in mind I use my Mifi anywhere from 5 to 9 hours straight everyday.

So my guess is it's your phone switching and not LTE going out.

I would tend to agree... the 4G nationwide outage that happened a couple of nights ago effectively killed all data except wifi - as 4G affects the 3G signal as well. If your phone is just switching from 4G to 3G, that just means you are in a spotty 4G area. You can force it to stay on 3G (and will save some battery life in the process)....

I am in a strong 4G area about three miles from downtown Nashville. I usually get between 18 and 24 Mbps here at work. My 4G has been down since noon. I'm not sure if this is just a local outage, as i have not gone anywhere else. I go home in 30 minutes, so we'll see what happens. The closest Verizon tower is not even 200 yards from my building.

Thanks for your optimism, but I'm not stupid. My phone never switches to 3G unless I leave the 4G area or the service goes out. Since I haven't driven anywhere, I have to assume that the 4G is down where I am or my phone is messed up. I even went outside and stood closer to the tower...I have full bars on 3G but no 4G service. I used to think Verizon's service was good.

Doh! I'm starting to wonder about the quality of this phone! I pulled the battery, and it made no difference. Then I pulled the battery and SIM, and it came right back up on 4G. Craziness! I've never had such a finicky phone!

Well in Houston service still rocks, in fact using my Mifi 4G LTE right now on my computer to post this.

No one said you were stupid (although people that aren't willing to learn/listen can be considered that) but what he says is very true...I live in a 4g LTE area, and yet my Bionic switches between 4G and 3G on a regular basis while sitting in my house...so it DOES happen.

I haven't had a huge issue with this. My church is down the street from me, and I tend to lose 4G signal while I'm there, it switches from 3G to 4G a lot. But when I'm at home or at school I don't seem to have a loss in signal here in Santa Barbara, CA. I mean once and a while the phone will swap down to 3G, but usually it switches back. I am running TH3ORYROM, but I don't think that will make a huge difference on reception and 3G to 4G switching. If I can't get it to come back on, usually airplane mode fixes it, or just a power off, power on.

Verizon is in a great position. Every phone they sell now works on both 3g and 4g.

If I were rolling out a new network, thats what I would want. So when 4g needs to go down for maintenance, testing, adding new towers, or even bugs, its not the end of the world. In fact, it really doesn't matter as long as it is not a long outage. I'm not saying this is what is happening, but I also certainly don't expect a 100% stable network anywhere I go yet. I have that in 3g right now, and that is why verizon is still the best.

We are complaining about losing 4g, where other carriers are complaining they don't get 3g, or even cell service at all in spots.
