This has now happened to me twice. I've wondered why I haven't been getting any voicemails, and I've found Verizon has disabled my google voicemail and all voicemails have been going to their limited, piece of **** voicemail service. I re-activated google voicemail, and now 3 weeks later it has done it again. Everytime I open the verizon voicemail app, it tries to get me to subscribe to their "premium" voicemail which is like $2.99 a month, which essentially offers the features of google offers for free in google voice. It is maddening and I don't know what is triggering it to happen, other than Verizon trying to force me onto their ****ty voicemail platform so I pay for their premium service. I'm really at a loss. Is this happening to anyone else?

And it's happened again since yesterday when I made this post. I think I am going to have to call Verizon about this.

I think I'm getting somewhere now. I think this all started after I had enabled HD Voice on my line. I went into my account a minute ago to see if I could block their voicemail that way, and when I tried, I get this error.

Note the "IMS Voice Mail - This feature is required with HD Voice. We apologize for this inconvenience."

I bet this is why they've been re-enabling their own voicemail everytime I change to google voice. I'm going to talk to a rep and see what the deal is with this.

I took one look at HD Voice Mail and turned it off.

Read the fine print, your users must also be using a Verizon phone with HD Voice enabled.

I have over 500 contacts and none of them have it, so why be burdened by it.

You are not crazy as this has happened to me and I came to your post upon searching on this very issue. I am very curious to learn what you found out!!!!

I haven't gotten around to calling or chatting with them yet cause every time I've tried they have up their wait times are longer than usual message and I don't have time for it. However everything I have found has indicated VoLTE and Google Voice are incompatible. I'm just going to disable VoLTE/Advanced Calling and re-setup Google Voice and hope it sticks. The better clarity with the 1 person who I talk to who is also on Verizon and has a compatible phone is not worth this trouble.

That is precisely why I disabled VoLTE.

It is virtually worthless because both parties must be on Verizon, and both must have VoLTE enabled.

Out of 500 contacts in my list, no one has VoLTE enabled. Most of the folks I talk to just buy their phone, turn it on, and talk. They are NOT Android fanatics, er uh, or they have an iPhone on AT&T and no choice in the matter. That would be our son who has an iPhone because his employer provides it.

As an update, I haven't lost my google voice connection since I disabled the advanced calling. It seems to be the fix.

I had the problem you are describing for a few days after turning on VoLTE, but then the Verizon pop ups stopped. I have VoLTE enabled and all of my voice mails are going through Voice Voice again.

Not really sure what caused the forced changes to stop, but they did stop.

My google voice voicemail stopped working on all my phones (mine and my kids') after I activated HD Voice calling ... so I disabled the HD Voice feature and still couldn't restore the google voice voicemail. Tried deleting the data and cache from mobile GV app ... tried uninstalling and reinstalling ... tried going into the google voice account on my laptop and deleting/re-adding my mobile number then clicking the "activate google voice on this phone" (which instructs you to dial *71[your 10-digit GV number]) ... tried the sequence of other *90 and *92 instructions ... kept getting recorded Verizon message saying "feature upgrade can't be completed ... please call *611 for tech service" ...

... called Verizon tech, was promptly advised that Verizon doesn't offer support for Google services. However, the guy did end up fixing the problem! The tech manually "enabled no answer call forwarding" to my google voice number ... and VOILA! it came back again.

The *71[+GV number] is the command to enable No Answer CAll Forwarding. So I'm suspicious Verizon has somehow deactivated the *71 command if one has Google Voice selected for voicemail in Settings--Applications--Calls--Voicemail.

Afterward, I found that on MyVerizon you can enable the No Answer Call Forwarding for each phone on your account on the website. That worked to restore Google Voice Voicemail on my kids' phones as well.

What a pain, but it's back in action.
