So I got the OTA force last night, and woke up to find the attached lovely screen... I have an idea of what to do to restore my device, but before I ruin it completely I wanted to run it by the group here.
It was rooted with the stock ROM.
Please help!

Technically, YOU killed it by rooting without setting it up so it wouldnt download an update. Can't blame that one on Verizon.
Much appreciatedYou need to shut it off and then reboot back into recovery using the power down/volume buttons. From there you go into recovery (clockwork) and tell it to wipe the cache. that will remove the update that it is trying to do and from there you only have to reboot the phone and you should be fine.
Once you are there then you need to make sure that you turn off the updates. If you need help there, that is another thread, just open it when you are ready.
Thanks, I went into recovery, but wasnt sure what do since I blew away my backup quite some time ago.. didnt realize clearing the cache would do that - but then again i'm a droid newb. You need to shut it off and then reboot back into recovery using the power down/volume buttons. Did you try simply pulling the battery, then rebooting?
RGR that, was waiting on stable CyanogenMod... didnt know they'd go ahead and force the update - have been denying it for weeks... been surviving on my Droid I with an old Cyanogen until I get the time to fix the phone...i believe you have to install a 3rd party rom if you are rooted. there was an issue with mr2 and rooted stock users getting an install loop and other issues.
iv been away so I hope im still up to date on all this![]()
Negative, I can blame Verizon as I neither asked for nor okayed them putting new software on the phone I purchased. Also, why should I have to root my phone and install obscure software in order to prevent them from pushing patches to my it. Apple and Microsoft nor Verizon (FIOS) do not force feed patches on my PCs, and thats really all the TBolt is is a PC with a LTE radio in it. If I were leasing it I'd feel differently, but it was not a cheap phone.

Looks to be working... just cleared the cache... I still have to reactivate it on my VZW account. Going to make sure it doesnt cut off on me again first..I just realized when I re-read your first post that you have the stock rom and, therefore, never put on clockwork mod. So, if that's true then we have another issue. But I see you replying to a number of posts and you aren't saying anywhere whether or not your phone is running again. Why don't you give us an update on that.

Thanks much.. I have root explorer... and advice on ROMs? Looking for something pretty simple until CM is stable. If its working, then the first thing you need to do is to turn off the updates. If you are rooted you need to download Root Explorer from the Market. Then, using RE, you need to go to system/etc/security and look for a file named otacerts.zip, in Root Explorer at the top change the directory to R/W and then change otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak, then change the permissions back from R/W to R/O and close Root Explorer.
Now you will have time to look around and find a custom rom that appeals to you. I found one for myself this morning put in on my TB.
Good Luck!
