Verizon LG G2 gets hot up top

Yeah, but you said that happens especially when searching for a signal. Unless phones vary as much as we like to think they do and I won the lottery.

I just can't help but be disappointed with the G2 as its easily twice as hot, if not moreso than my previous phone. Honestly, my fingers get sweaty. :(

Really weird. I haven't had one instance where it's gotten anything more than somewhat warm. That was the first night when I was downloading app after app watching video after video and not giving the phone a rest. But even then it was just warm.

At least in my experience with phones, they always seem to get hottest when having trouble with signals. Mine has no trouble at all.

Not receiving a signal will cause a phone to get nasty on you, I've experienced that. But just browsing the web? Or chatting on google hangouts? I've only felt 2 phones that have gotten out of control doing day to day tasks. The Gnex and the G2.

I think its subjective. I've been through 2 of these things and now a major review site feels the same way. I highly doubt a 2nd replacement would be any cooler. I bet if we measured our phones after a few runs of Quadrant or a set of email/browse/app runs they'd be the same temp. You just have no feeling left in your hands. ;)

any of you ever have an s4? the top of that phone got so hot you couldn't make a call without burning your ear up lol mine would get so hot from a few minutes of usage on 4g..on wifi it wasn't as hot, but still hot.

my g2 is so much cooler on 4g. I love it. so happy lol

Finally had an experience with mine getting hot this morning, but I was expecting it: I use Waze (mostly for traffic) when I commute. Sure enough, just like with my prior phone, the G2 got pretty hot by the time I got to work, though I don't think it was as hot as my iPhone got and it seemed to cool off a lot more quickly. But, as I said, this was expected, at least for me.

Both the S3 and S4 were prone to this. As I've said before, there were times I literally had to take the phone out of my pocket it got so hot. But I thought you were having issues with your G2 getting hot? Are things better now?

no no, my g2 never got hot. I've been good with that.

See, now I never experienced this on an AT&T S3. Gnex, yes. G2, yes. Maybe it is worth swapping out one last time...

I have so far had 3 G2's. Running Quadrant on my first, it was still cool. Running a couple times on my second, it got hot to the point that it wouldn't let me turn brightness to 100% because temp was too hot. My third phone gets a little warm but not too bad. I keep switching G2s mainly because of call quality problems (other threads).

My 1st one sounded great. The replacement sounds horrible. Maybe Ill try one last time.

Sorry guys. Either you're not pushing your phones or you're severely downplaying the issue. I have had 3 of these now and they ALL get hot.

Pocket lint review agrees w/ me too.

"All that power also leads to a phone that's hot to the touch. Not egg-cooking hot, but hot enough."

You may also be in an area where the phone is having trouble with the signal. No matter what I've done to mine, at the worst it gets warm, not hot. And I know what hot is, I've owned Samsungs. Now those run hot hot hot.

But you've already said they got hot when looking for a signal. I'm not talking about that. I'm on wifi anyway. The G2 and the Gnex are crazy hot phones. My G3 and Note never got hot and the Note 2 is mostly barely warm. Simply browsing forums is enough to get this thing cooking. Combined with the brightness, font, and camcorder bugs, its just too much fail for a phone.

Shame because it's got some great features...but it wont be ling before something else comes along that doesn't melt my face off. ;)

Don't know what to tell you. I can do considerable web browsing and really, mine doesn't get hot. Warm yes, hot no...surely not like what you're talking about. Let's face it, if this was such a common issue and to the degree you're experiencing, we'd be reading tons of complaints. I'm not seeing them.

Your feelings on the phone are obviously not shared by many.

I am really curious, for some of you that never get hot (I mean the phone ;)), try running Quadrant Standard three times in a row and see how it feels. I only ran it once with first phone, but my second got very warm after the first run, burning hot after 3 runs and got the temp warning turning up brightness afterwards (and the store demo unit did that too). My third phone only gets a little warm after 3 runs and the benchmark result only drops slightly (about 20,000 to start, down to 19,000). The second phone drastically reduced the result to 14,000 on third run, obviously due to the CPU being throttled down.

The next thing I noticed is it took a long time to cool. In fact if after I ran those benchmark tests, I kept the screen on and browsed the internet, read forums, etc, but nothing too intensive, it stayed very warm. It only started substantially cooling when I put it to sleep. This makes me think the design does not dissipate heat well either. I tend to run at around 70% brightness.

[Aside... my Galaxy S fascinate would always burn a hole in my pocket whenever I went into a particular store where the signal is abysmal and I'm there for a while. I have learned to go into airplane mode when I walk into that store now.]

Why not use a battery monitor app and report actual temps??? Takes out the subjectiveness of "hot" ...

Funny you should say, I only just thought of that and started looking for such an app. Can you recommend a good one that works on the G2?

Took my cover off, ran three times....all good.

Cool?! Please...

I do have a silicone cover on it but I can't tell at all when it's on. I take it odd from time to time and its slightly warm but I wouldn't say hot. Especially not compared to what my gnex would do.
