Verizon LTE NOT supported on LTE Nexus 7

For what it's worth - I got this same response yesterday using this post as my guide. SIM card should be on it's way, and my Nexus 7 has been added to the DMD. Spoke with Jesse and he was interested to hear more about the FCC regulations - so luckily I had some websites open I could read off of.

Spirk - did you ever follow up with your conclusion to this method? Did it work for you?

Thanks!

I keep trying to reply from Tapatalk on my Nexus 7 but nothing has shown up. Anyway...
Yeah I called back and was told "No one knows why or how Verizon was able to ask Verizon to add a device to Verizon's database." I don't remember who I was talking to but it seemed like they were referring to many different instances of the same company. I have since given up trying to make people realize they are breaking the law.

Interesting. So, I should not expect this to work then. smh

Guess I'll try one of these alternate methods...

Well, still no traction using Spirk's method, even though I apparently have a ticket open I'm waiting for approval of the device addition.

So I went ahead and tried this...

I have verified that this will work just now with my Nexus 7. For obvious reasons I will not give you my IMEI, but you could try something that starts with this:
1. take this 10-digit root 9900011341
2. stick a random 4-digit number on the end of that number
3. paste that 14 digit number in the calculator here: IMEI.info
4. take the resulting 15 digit number and check it here: ESN / IMEI / MEID Check (Free) > Swappa

I was able to take that number and call Verizon. Here's how to make the call:
1. say you have a tablet and want to activate the sim card (or re-activate a sim card) with it (don't lie, just say "a tablet")
2. give them the sim card and the generated IMEI
3. they will activate it and ask you to put it in and turn it on: put the sim into your nexus and turn it on.

That's it. It will be active.

It worked! I don't want to use my existing line for a smartphone anymore, so this was even easier for me. I got the dummy IMEI number, went online to my VZW account, and clicked "Activate or Switch Device".

Put in the new IMEI number, indicated that I wanted to keep using the same SIM that was in my smartphone, put it in the N7, restarted and it was activated!

Score!

I meant simply using a cellular connection and the Verizon number. On a phone this would not be hard to check as you already have a simple SMS app. On a tablet is becomes a little more complex because there is no stock dialer/sms app. Does the tablet SIM work in a GSM phone for SMS?

Try using Tango. I have a T-Mobile SIM in my Nexus 7, and T-Mobile sent me an SMS message to the number associated with my T-Mobile SIM that I received via Tango. I was a little surprised to receive it.

Does anyone know if you can use your VZW carrier # to send and receive MMS and SMS while your sim is in the Nexus 7? I normally use Google Voice anyway, but I was curious.

Hey Everyone,

With Verizon still not officially allowing the LTE on their network, I was just wondering if anyone is still thinking that they will officially support or allow this device or if we are pretty much dead in the water at this point. With so much time going by, I am beginning to wonder. Your thoughts?

Based on the feedback, I tried this and it worked! The IMEI number generated was for a Galaxy Tab 7.7. I went to a Verizon store and purchased a Micro Sim card for $15 (they would have given me a free one if I took the device and had them insert the card, but I obviously couldn't do that, so I just paid the $15). My old account (Motorola Xoom) was on suspend since I had sold it a few weeks ago. So I logged into my account using the VerizonWireless website, entered the generated IMEI number and the SIM number, popped it in my Nexus, and I have connection!

I also have an active T-Mobile account. So now I have a SIM for both T-Mobile and Verizon. I'm gonna be doing some testing in the coming weeks. So far, at my residence, I get the identical download speed, but T-Mobile beats Verizon on upload. 10mb/s vs 5mb/s. They key test is seeing who has the better reception and speed where I travel in the Los Angeles area. I have a feeling T-Mobile is gonna be better since our Nexus doesn't have a 3G antenna for Verizon. I'll start a new thread once I'm done evaluating both.

Someone asked what my Verizon account says as my active device with my Nexus 7. On my account, the device listing is blank. LOL. It says: "Current Device:" and that's it.

  1. Take the 9-digit root IMEI for a verizon-compatible tablet (990001134) then add some random digits until you get a 14-digit code,
  2. then use a checksum generator like IMEI.info to add the 15th digit,
  3. then check your handiwork at a site like ESN / IMEI / MEID Check (Free) > Swappa.
  4. Once the IMEI is made, call Verizon, tell them you want to activate a tablet, give them the SIM card number, the IMEI, and then stick the SIM card into your Google Nexus 7 when prompted, and get on the network.
  5. Now you have a tablet account added to Verizon. Cool

I can confirm that this works. I took my Nexus 7 (2013) in to a Verizon store to get activated and they said they couldn't do it because it wasn't certified yet. But the representative was very helpful and said if I could get an IMEI off the Internet he could and would activate it.

I remembered reading this thread, followed the instructions and got the number. Gave it to the representative and he activated a sim card and even installed it in my Nexus for me. Within seconds it was connected to the Verizon network.

I'm waiting for the LTE version of my beloved LG G Pad 8.3 to be released. I have a suspended number on my VZW account and if VZW is playing the same game as they're doing with the new Nexus 7, I'll have to request a replacement sim card and plop it into the new G Pad.
