Verizon misinformation?

Go for the droid , great phone , have never dropped a call in since day 1 .

I had the pre when it was with sprint and I have the droid now. While I think Web OS has a bright future, I think the droid is better hands down. I did drop quite a few calls with the pre, but that was on sprints network. Plus, the pre's signal was all over the place. Allot of people, especially on precentral were complaining of the same things. And don't believe you can't customize the pre, you can and its not difficult to do at all. If you do get a pre, check out precentral.net, there's a ton of info there, just like on here.

I've had dropped calls on my Droid but its usually the other person or I am down in the subway. Verizon has a great network.

At first I didnt think I would like the keyboard.. but ive been using it more often, and its really handy when you need it. If you are really against the fully keyboard then did you try the Eris. Its a lot lighter but it doesn't have the keyboard.

I would say give the Droid a chance.. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by how great the phone is.

I have never dropped a single call with my droid and sound quality is superb. why are verizon reps so full of it

I went into a Verizon store planning on buying a new phone. I narrowed down my choices to two phones. The Palm Pre and the Droid. I am coming from a touch pro 2 Windows Mobiles device that I have spent so many wasted hours trying to customize to my liking without being truly satisfied...I'm sick of wasting so much time messing with a phone trying to get it perfect if you know what I mean.

I told myself that the Palm Pre was the phone for me since i wouldn't spend so much of my time trying to customize it since there are only so many things you can do to it.. Yes i had heard of the cheap build quality and that the advertising campaign is focused towards woman, but I ignored all that and told myself that it would be the phone for me but that I would try the Droid out frist just to make sure the Pre was THE ONE...

So I take my girlfriend with me, and the first thing she says when I she saw I was looking at the Palm Pre was "Isn't that a girls phone?"...well that kinda pissed me off but I ignored her and searched out for a Verizon representative. He also echoed the same thoughts calling the Pre a girls phone..Bastard.

By now I was questioning my man hood and looking at the droid as an alternative. I had previously thought about waiting for the nexus one, but damn it I wanted a new phone now so I thought I would check out the droid since so many of my friends seem to really like it. The Verizon dude told me the droid was a bad phone because so many people had come in complaining about the device its self dropping calls. He said if you make a lot of phone calls it's a horrible device. This made me realize he probably isn't on commission since he obviously wasn't trying to sell me a phone...

My Question to all you guys is do you ever have issues with your droid when making phone calls? Does it drop calls randomly? I really love the device (besides the keyboard) and trust you guys more then the representative. My other question is have any of you come from a touch Pro 2 or other Window Mobile device and noticed a huge difference in ease of phone use? If you have read all the way to this point I just want to say sorry for the SUPER LONG post, I know I hate reading long posts myself....I blame my good friend Jim Beam :D Thanks!

Wow, that Verizon rep is shocking in his loopy assessments. I think the last thing in the world that Droid owners would complain about is dropped calls or bad voice connections. Call quality is even superior in that voices sound like the people rather than distant or tinny. Plus with Verizon's network, I'm like the only one in my office, located inside a building with lots of steel, that gets excellent coverage.

The speaker quality is good enough to do conference calling on speaker phone easily. I don't even mind listening to music directly from the speakers if that's my only recourse. I don't think I've ever heard another device this small give such excellent sound straight out through its own speakers.

Plus now that I'm really getting the hang of things by playing with it, I find customization to be a breeze. I am in love with this phon...tiny computer that makes excellent phone calls. And any time I have a question on how to do something, I just search for the topic here and always find an answer.

I've had Droid for about 1 month now, no dropped calls. Droid is the way to go, looking forward to next version of this phone. The keyboard took getting use to, I had a LG Voyager prior to this phone and the keyboard on it was 2nd to none.

Well if that was the case, then then he definitely didn't get the memo. I was playing with the Pre for a good 10 minutes telling him how I liked that it was a phone that didn't require much customizing etc. After all that, he decided to tell me he was pretty sure the phone was for girls only..talk about a buzz kill. Kinda glad he did that though, since honestly I think I'll be happier with a Nexus one when it comes to Verizon. I like the droid, just don't like the keyboard so I might as well wait for a android phone that doesn't have the keyboard.

Here's another memo: You don't have to use the physical keyboard on the Droid if you don't want to. The onscreen works just fine for most. But... all it takes is a little time with it to get used to it. Also, It'll probably make life easier if you don't put so much weight on what someone else thinks. I also find it hard to believe a verizon rep would talk bad about a phone he's selling.
Oh and I've met some dumb ones, but never one who'd do that.

A friend of mine had a Droid, and she dropped calls constantly. She took it back for a replacement and that Droid had the same problem and it froze consistently. She was allowed to change to a LG Chocolate Touch. So I am not sure if they were problems or if she wanted an excuse to drop the $30 data charge. Either way, just wanted to share that story.

I have had my Moto Droid since December 3rd 2009 and I use it for all my conference calls and being a General manager for my company I make large amounts of calls each day, I never have had a drop call.

I agree that the pre is a girls phone. You could of looked at the pixi too, that sounds manly ;p You would need girly fingers to use the physical keyboard on either of those phones.

Ive never had problems with dropped calls on my droid. This isnt the iPhone.

My previous phone was an el cheapo Samsung that did nothing much more than make
phone calls. It was on T-mobile, which I constantly had problems with no signal, while
everyone else was talking on their phones. And lots of dropped calls.

I changed to Verizon because of the Tmobile issues and got the Droid a couple of months ago. I love it, get much better reception, quality of sound, and have not had a single dropped call.

I have never once had an issue with a dropped call, at least not on my end. The very few occasions I've had dropped calls have all been while talking with someone who is using at&t or Sprint. Call quality has also been excellent. I can't see any truth in this

I never have dropped a call on my droid. It has everything going for it, Verizon network> android 2.0 OS> and background noise canceling technology. This all makes call quality superb with the droid. I also think the droid keyboard is an awesome smooth and soft keyboard. I've always hated hard button keyboards like BB's and just about all other phones. But remember, you don't have to use it. You still have two other virtual keyboard choices that work very well.

The Palm Pre Plus is a nice phone, and not as girly as most suggest, but i"d go with the droid. It will definitely meet your needs unless your are absolutely gonna need webOS.

Verizon salesmen know nothing. the only verizon employees i'm ever willing to talk to are smartphone customer support. They have worked wonders with my old BB and now with my Droid.

Rule #1 has always been; never listen to the Verizon reps because the majority have no idea what they are talking about. Now that we have that out of the way, I never have dropped a call either. The call clarity has also been superb. I have had the droid since launch day and it has been absolutely fantastic and even better now that I have explored around with rooting and installing custom rom's, overclocking the processor, all kinds of goodies. You get a 30day window so try it out and see if it is for you.

Don't let anyone tell you that a phone is for girls. Everyone has different tastes so the pre may be more for you. From what I have seen though, I have two friends that HAD pre's on sprint and both have already moved to the Hero after having replaced 3-4 pre's each. Web-Os has a great future but the build quality of the pre really is junk. Doesn't mean that you will have to deal with it though.

Even though I thought the Droid was ugly I put up with it and I am glad I did because the things I have done and the potential it still has is amazing. Now the look has grown on me (but I still never use the keyboard) and I like it. Throw in a car mount to use your GPS and it blows my wives TomTom out of the water.

Really? Must have had an awful experience because I'd strongly disagree with you.

Just like when you purchase anything, you should always do your own research.

The Droid is a great phone, a very low return rate at that for a smart phone. I have no idea why the rep would tell you the Droid is awful but this makes me think you didn't go to a corporate store.

The Verizon Palm Pre Plus is a very good device. Easiest smartphone to learn how to use. It can run more simultaneously than a Palm Pre. The problem with the Pre Plus is when you do start an application, it takes a few for it to start. Quite annoying. Maybe they will find a way to speed it up later but it's not an instant start up like a Droid. I love my Droid, it does everything I could want from a phone from Multimedia to business. You just have to be ok with the poor battery life and even at that it's just like any other smart phone that you are charging every night anyways.

Honestly while no smartphone battery is great, The Droid has had the best battery life out of any smartphone I've had. Including the HTC Mogul, Touch Pro, and Palm Pre, which were all on Sprint. Now that probably had a lot to do with a very poor Sprint signal at my place of work and those three sprint phones were constantly switching between roaming and not. I'm really happy with the Droid though. Like I said before, It's the best phone I've ever had.
