I think what isn't touched on there is that the shutter is so slow you are limited to taking shots of non-moving objects indoors. Great if you frequently photograph coffee cups and android toys, not so great if you photograph people, pets, and kids.

According to this it's in the ballpark of some other phones noted for having very good cameras. Razr Maxx added for comparison purposes.

I've seen that comparison chart posted many times. I've also seen many sources post conflicting data about other phones. Bottom line: for the fastest phone on the market, it takes the longest time to capture an image. It doesn't matter what that chart says- the camera lag is horrendous.

Come folks we all have different expectations/standards for what is acceptable to us in a phone camera. I have looked at the charts, read most of your comments, and looked at the pictures. Is the Turbo better than my old Razr M? Sure seems like it. Is it better than all the other 'flagship phone' cameras? Don't know. Not sure it is really important - at least to me. But since the Razr M got the job done for me, I will probably be happy with the Turbo. In the interest of openness, I take very few pictures with my phone. Most of the time I have at least one other camera camera with me. I am so out of date that I think of my phone as an object to make calls to other humans. I know really weird.

If camera is your priority, I can understand the Turbo will fail to satisfy. I expect most of you will decide to make a different choice. But the one thing I would urge you not to do is hang around waiting for the next upgrade to solve the problem. After 30+ years in software development, one thing I know for sure is that upgrades never solve all the problems. Android 5.0 is not the second coming.

My first big-boy phone, an Evo 4G, it set the camera bar so low that everything since has been nothing but cake.
My DT due in tomorrow, if the camera sucks, I'll be complaining. Judging from the video (that I can't post a link to since I'm
a new guy here), it's as fast or faster than my GS4. Which is good enough for a phone/me.

Honestly I think the camera on this phone is just fine, mine takes great, crisp and clear pictures all day even in low light (providing of course the object is no more than a few feet away to allow the flash to reflect). Not sure what the complaints are about, I haven't seen them.

Tell your object to move while you're taking a picture. You will have a complaint.

Still hoping against hope that either an upgrade to lollipop or actual camera app itself upgrade can fix or at the very least improve the shutter lag. I'd be a very happy person.

I actually have taken moving photos and videos. Over a couple days I took roughly 520 pictures and 12 videos (slow motion, 1080 and 4k). Many were stills, some slow moving objects and others from a car on the highway. No disappointment. Pictures are very clear and crisp. Shots taken from both the stock camera and google camera. Honestly the only "dissapoitment" is that the screen is so good that the pictures dont look as good on my laptop. Just like watching a 720 p video on a 1080 p screen. Makes me want a nicer laptop screen. Everyone says that such a high resolution screen on your phone is pointless, I say it makes a huge difference! The only other camera complaint is once your phone has a lot of pictures, dont know exact number but when I had over 500 it takes a long time to delete some from gallery. This only happened with google photos, the stock gallery app was still normal. Other than that no camera problems, I love the camera and yes even in low light and yes even quick moving objects, mime at least takes fantastic clear detailed and rich photos and videos

Wow, I don't think that we could get two views on the camera that are more polar opposite than jamielov and 88horizon5speed, ha. Round 2, FIGHT!

I sit squarely in the middle; the camera doesn't suck but it's not great either. When comparing to other current smartphones, ours lags behind in most areas but in particular low light and action shots. But, on its own with no reference points, it does a passable job in most situations, and in particular it takes very good daytime outdoor still shots. Unfortunately its weaknesses negate the supposed advantages gained by having 20.7 megapixels to work with and 4k video (no optical image stabilization, really?!).

The camera is just fine for my purposes, but I certainly empathize with those who are frustrated that Motorola STILL hasn't come up with a top notch camera yet.

Well its not just me. As the history of this post (and a few other posts show) some are happy/content with the camera and some, like myself, are completely underwhelmed. Ill simply say my older droid incarnations got much better action shots (my primary use) and I've posted the proof/results in other threads, while others are content with theirs. Hoping for a fix or adjustment so we can all be happy.

As good as my droid x camera seemed at the time, ive recently looked at them both side by side, droid x looks like crap now, just my experience
