Verizon Nexus 4?

Why would you pay $350 for a N4 and pay Verizon $100 a month or more to use it?

Another question: Why would anyone pay Verizon or any other carrier $100/month to use any phone? There are so many cheaper alternatives.

Because I am tethering my laptop using a solid signal and (grandfathered) unlimited data in places my in-laws phones on AT&T and T-Mobile are not even getting signal. My current contract is up in December, and we will see if that still matters to me. I feel pretty ready to jump, and after buying mom a Nexus 4, I am also feeling jealousy

Not sure if you're saying there's only one iphone 5, but there's three versions.
No, I was only addressing the Verizon iPhone5 (that is why I said the Verizon iPhone 5). The Verizon iPhone 5 is carrier unlocked for GSM carriers. You can use it on any GSM carrier, including ATT and TMobile. You just can't use it on other CDMA carriers, like Sprint.

The poster I was addressing said there is no way Verizon is going to carrier unlock phones. Well, they already have. At least for GSM carriers.

I'm happy with my Z10 for now, but I do have a tendency to jump around with phones a lot... lol
I'd certainly look to pick up a N4 through VZW if and only if they didn't interfere with OTA updates.
VZW allows Apple to update iPhone without strenuous testing... should be the same way with Google.

Funny because I was loggin on to ask what anyone knew about a Verizon Nexus 4....and then I see this thread....I have an iPhone 5 on Verizon as my main line, and a secondary line on an ATT Straight talk plan with a Nexus 4.....I would love to swap those phones, and use my Nexus 4 on my main line with Verizon and the iPhone with my Straight Talk line....crossing my fingers for a Verizon version during I/O......I tend to use my Nexus more than iPhone when im doing tasks....although since my work info/main txt messaging is tied into my iphone I have no choice but to use it as the main line....as a side note, I am praying this unified messaging from google pans out...thats the only thing holding me back from a full android conversion...

I highly doubt it will come to Verizon. The Nexus 4 would have to be rebuilt to allow the radio for the cell network that Verizon is on. I don't see any good reason for rebuilding a device nearly from the ground up after a year in production. I heard that Verizon will never go with a Nexus device again, but I think that is because Google told them to fly a kite in regards to bloatware and Verizon didn't like that. Verizon claimed poor sales. (Yeah...right)

I agree that the Nexus devices shouldn't have removed that cell radio. Sprint is on the same type, and I would love to try a Nexus device.

I would look into specifics about your upgrade terms. I think Verizon just changed the terms and conditions.

I'm not sure it's accurate to state the phone would have to be rebuilt. In so far as I understand it, it's just a modified SoC and a modification to the SIM reader, plus slightly different software radios. Then there is the verification side of things that Verizon does to authorize CDMA devices on their network... but while this could cause a delayed release, such as on the S4, it seems hardly preventative or even difficult in my mind. That being said, seeing a Verizon CDMA Nexus 4 in the play store makes me skeptical, and I'm not sure I'd want it straight from Verizon, especially if it's $500+.

That really has nothing to do with it. Apple has insisted from the beginning that no bloatware or carrier branding be on their phones because of the impact on the customer experience. Verizon initially declined to carry the iPhone because of these terms then relented because of demand for the iPhone. Google as the owner of the OS could insist on this and so could Samsung etc. They don't. Apple was the first company to dictate terms to the carriers rather than the other way around. I have a pretty good idea of how the carriers interact with manufacturers because I used to work at Motorola in IT but did a lot of work for Motorola mobility. We were issued Motorola phones but most of us carried iPhones as our personal phones in the early days of Android. We also had the choice of high end Mac or PC laptops and almost everyone chose Macs.
Anyway. I would kill for a Nexus 4 on Verizon. They are the only carrier that gives me the coverage I need for traveling and in rural areas for cycling events. After looking at the HTC One and S4 very closely I'm going to get ride of my Note 2 on Verizon and get a Nexus 4 on AT&T unless Verizon does get the Nexus 4. I've had it with anything but stock android.

I don't understand why people do not get the major difference in this common Apple analogy...Apple makes 1 phone, and any carrier that wants to have it is forced to comply with Apples desires. Android makes, what 20...50...150??? different phones. It's easy for any carrier to decide they have no desire to comply with the Google over a single device (the Nexus). Not having 1 Android phone will effect their overall business by very negligible amount. Not carrying the iphone would effect their business in major way. It's an invalid comparison.

Interesting. I have a personal iPhone 5 and a Note 2 which I will be replacing with a Nexus 4. My company issues Blackberries but is switching everyone over to iPhones. Since they have around 20,000 Blackberries (its a very big well known company) it's taking awhile. But then I can have an iPhone 5 for work and a personal Nexus 4. My current iPhone 5 is on Verizon month to month because I paid full price for it rather than lose unlimited. We are also buying thousands of iPads.

The Nexus 4 already has an LTE antenna. It has not been tested by the FCC and cannot be used. Even if it didn't its not that big a deal to add one. A fair amount of reengineering but far from impossible.
