I switched from Verizon to T Mobile and I'm using my Verizon Note 8. Will I be able to receive updates from T Mobile when they send them?

I'm not sure but welcome to T-Mobile. There are plenty of people on here that will be able to answer that though so I'm sure you'll hear something soon.

Do you have fully functioning apps and everything since it's from Verizon to T-Mobile? Just curious

No since it's a Verizon model, updates still come from Verizon not T-Mobile. Samsung still bends over back to carriers and has separate individual firmwares for each carrier. So, your Verizon phone can only be updated by Verizon.

Everything seems to work fine. Although I haven't tried it yet. I heard that Wi-Fi calling doesn't work

So the only way I can update my is by using Odin?

You mean flashing the T-Mobile firmware? Yeah I haven't been doing that stuff for while now but I believe all the recent US models are basically the same across carriers so theoretically you can flash the T-Mobile firmware and after that you should receive future updates from T-Mobile since it'll be TMobile firmware. May be check XDA if that's possible.

I have a really dumb question...if you switched over to Tmobile, why didn't you turn / trade in the Verizon model for a Tmobile one?Usually switching carriers give you perks for doing that kind of thing.

My Note 8 was paid for and they didn't offer me what I paid for it. I would have had to get a device payment or buy another Note 8

Yes. All US versions of the Note 8 are basically the same. The problem arises from the IEMI not the firmware. Each carrier has their own IEMI blocks. Even though the the phone works fine on T-Mobile's network, it's not a T-Mobile IEMI and therefore probably won't get updated by T-Mobile.

If it was non-carrier branded (unlocked), then it wouldn't be an issue because the update come from Samsung. Flashing the unlocked ROM, or the T-Mobile ROM probably won't solve the problem.

There is a guide on how to switch carriers on XDA, but it looks a little complicated for me.

Switching from Verizon to T-Mobile and AT&T is easy, just pop in an activated SIM, and the phone will work. All Verizon phones are SIM unlocked.

I'm not sure about Verizon to Sprint. AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint phones are SIM locked, meaning you to ask them to unlock the phone for use on another carrier; and Sprint is also CDMA and it's the way CDMA works that would make Verizon to Sprint (and vice versa) problematic.

Theoretically, you can use AT&T and T-Mobile phones on Verizon. Even though they are GSM, it would work on Verizon's LTE network. The HTC U11, which has no CDMA, actually works on Verizon. Just not in the small areas with no LTE.

I'm actually talking about switching the firmware to T-Mobile so that the phone is actually a T- Mobile phone. I already have a Tmobie sim in it.

Are you flashing it, or are you having T-Mobile flash it? I'm still not sure if that will fix the update issue.

Yes I'm flashing it using Odin. There is a complete guide on how to switch carriers on xda, but it seems a little complicated. I wish they make a video.

I've flashed ROMs using Odin. It's not that hard, just tedious. The nice thing is, it's almost impossible to brick your phone.
