Verizon offer FREE INC2 or X2

Well, the boys over at XDA have ED05 (2.2.2) leak which reports over the last 2 days have shown to eliminate the missed calls issue....and some are also reporting substantially better battery (that's running it completely stock w/ all the bloat). Give VZW a week. I have a good feeling that, given the reported stability (people are saying it's super smooth) and the fact that it appears to have fixed the call issue, VZW will be OTA'ing it very soon. Again, just my pure speculation.

I hear you, but I'm not sure I trust the device anymore, unfortunately. Not sure any updates are gonna solve all the issues.

@lpt2569: I hear you, man. The problem is that you're talking about it like a marriage. As far as I can tell, this love affair is only going one way. Yes, your Fascinate really does not have any feelings for you! So remember, your phone is a servant, intended to work for you 24/7 and never complain. When it's not that way, it is very frustrating.

By the way, the screen on the Charge is, actually, even more stunning than the Fascinate. At $300 with contract, this is is the most top-of-the-line phone that Verizon currently has to offer, and they're letting us have it free of Charge. The fact that the Charge is a Droid-branded phone leads me to believe that support for this phone is going to be a better story than the Fascinate.

My real wife has a Fascinate as well, has similar issues, but has no interest in exchanging her phone.

I'm leaning more towards the Charge over the DINC2, but my decision might be made for me if I wait much longer and VZW decides enough is enough, and they stop doing the exchanges. I already had to fight my way out of the Continuum back in March, and I'm not sure VZW is going to respond kindly to me on this, and maybe it would be justified since this would be my second upgrade without having to pay for it in 6 months.

In short....test it out in store if at all possible, because if your thumb length is on the edge, you'll be surprised how much difference that extra 1/5 actually makes.

Yea, my hands are large enough that using the Charge wouldn't be a problem, but I already considered the Fascinate to be right on the edge of being too big as it was, so ANY bigger would have bugged me. I'm finding the Incredible to be absolutely perfect - same screen size as the Fascinate but in a smaller overall size. If the resolution of the Charge was higher, it might have been worth living with the extra size, but all it offers is bigger pixels, not more pixels.

In the end, it's all personal preference. The Fascinate was my first phone on Verizon, and there were many things about Verizon that I was not impressed with. I have to give them credit in this case, though, offering these 3 choices for free is a pretty amazing deal. I'd have replaced the Fascinate as soon as my contract was up, but now it'll be a very long time before I'll have any interest in upgrading the Incredible.

I don't blame you one bit. My phone was atrocious with 2.1, my wife's was awesome - smooth and efficient always. 2.2 made my phone run like a champ (minus shoddy satalite reception), and with 2.2 my wife's phone has intermittent freeze ups, FC's and required battery pulls because of inoperable lock ups. Just enough to bother, but not enough to make you want to argue w/ customer service.

My wife and I have both had this phone working w/o issue while we've owned it, and when it did, it was awesome. I'm gonna see if ED05 (2.2.2 and reported way better battery/smooth and stable) comes in the next week. If it does, and I see those results...it'll be a damn good phone once again. If not, i'll drop this trade in info in my wife's lap, and we'll likely be making a joint trip/phone call to VZW to do a trade in as well.

On a side note, I'm glad to see this VZW allowing trade ins like this, but for my own selfish reasons, I hate to see the Fascinate community being gutted with every trade in.

It also makes me worry that Verizon is doing the trade in so that when completely ignore updating the fascinate after they release ED05, all the people that might have voiced their displeasure will be on new devices and therefore silenced. :-\

ummm..you can change that with the charge. A simple fix of the prop.build can knock the pixels from 240 to sub 200 if you choose

I as well hate seeing a good community being gutted by something like this, but as someone said to me when I first switched, we are all gonna move on sooner or later....

The rep told me to send everything back that came with the phone except the SD card. I sent it back with the return FedEx label that came in the box.

I am having issues getting VZ to replace 2 of my Fascinates. They claim that since I got them off eBay the warranty is void. I've been on with multiple CSRs trying to get them to exchange....no luck so far.

Just curious....but why should you receive the benefit of a warranty from VZW if you didn't get it from them?

That would be like me buying a defective TV from Walmart and then expecting Bestbuy to replace it under Bestbuys warranty policy just because they carry that same TV.

Ordered myself a DINC2 today over the phone with customer support. Just thought I'd say au revoir to this forum, which has been of great help since I got the phone (I've been quite the lurker). Not receiving phone calls, the constant crashes (running stock), and erratic battery performance all led me to make the call to customer service. I chose the DINC instead of pushing for a Charge because I just don't have much faith in samsung.

Thanks guys!

That's where I'm at, I called friday and was offered the Charge, DX2 or DINC 2. Very tempted by the Charge because I should get 4G at my house but I'm like you, after my 6 month fascinate experience I'm kinda done with samsung I think.

You are smart. The charge freezes when you take pics with flash.Bad battery life on 4g.Also getting dropped calls on the charge.Im staying away from Samung after the charge. The inc2 is a good phone just kinda has poor signal as well.Ive heard thats always htcs problem.

Spoke again with tech support again tonight after a weekend of missed calls and at least half a dozen battery pulls to unlock/unfreeze the phone. So it's with mixed emotions that I will be exchanging my Fascinate tomorrow for the Droid Charge. I'm excited, but at the same time a bit nervous sticking with Samsung. I've had the Continuum and Fascinate both crap out on me within only a few months time. My wife has a Fascinate, and I am going to encourage her to make an exchange as well. (Tech Support noted my account that she can make an exchange anytime she is ready). I may tray to sway her towards the DINC2, but of course she will make her own decision. ;)

I struggled between the DInc2 and the charge. I decided to stay with the devil I know.

My charge should arrive today.

I looked at it from the standpoint of resale value. Should I not like the Charge it is worth more on eBay or craigslist than the X2 or Inc2 it appears.

This is exactly why I got the Charge. I don't expect to keep it very long. My contract is actually up and I'm waiting for that one device I'll really want (SG2, bionic, nexus?). I'll have the Charge to hold me over till then, and the resale value is the best of the 3.

Do'h!

Looks like my Charge crapped out on me today. I cannot make any outgoing calls. Screen stays at the "Dialing" screen, and after a few seconds I get a beep and goes back to the keypad.

Already tried rebooting, and a factory reset. No go. Time to call VZ again!

EDIT: Wasn't the phone...called VZ and it turns out they had an outage in my area. So I factory reset for nothing...damn it!

It seems Verizon is making it harder and harder for people to exchange their phones with anything but another fascinate. I exchanged my first one with very little problems about a week ago. I had another fascinate to exchange but wanted to see how the Inc2 would perform. I was happy with it so I decide to exchange the second fascinate with another Inc2. I called on Sunday and they gave me the run around about how I needed to have the phone with me in order for them to "trouble shoot it" . This wasn't possible since my daughter was not home this weekend and she had the phone with her. I told them I did every trouble shooting method that I was told to do on the first one. I also asked them why I should have to go through all the steps again. Then they were like " well we will need the MEID off of it". I figured they had me on that one so I said ok I will wait till she gets home tomorrow and call back.

SO...............I do that. First I get one person trying to figure out what I want. After getting her to realize that I was very knowledgeable about this phone(thanks to AC) and their policy, she transfers me to a "TECH" . Which is funny cause that's who I thought I was talking to in the first place. I get transfered to a tech and she puts up a wall right off the bat. Saying things like "where did you get the phone?" "When did you buy it?" and she just went on and on with the questions. Then she goes on to say "we will send you another fascinate". So I get a little irritable a say "hold on.......I've explained to you that I've already been through this once and explained your own policy to you and you don't want to offer me an alternate choice?" Then she tells me "well if we do that and they don't find anything wrong with it then you will be carged full price for the phone." I just tell her i've had problems with it and just want to try something different since it's being offered.

So she changes her tone and tries to be all freindly and I'm like whatever  . So I will be getting the replacement tomorrow. I guess all experiences can't be good, unfortunately.
