Verizon officially pulls update via Twitter

All stuff I could care less about. I just want a phone that works properly. Next week IOS5 will fix all of that including voice texting.

Um, I don't think Apple's software can add a hardware LED, and I don't think iOS 5 will reverse iOS 4's decision for no video chat over 3g. Also Android already has voice texting? But that's not what I wanted to post about, I wanted to tell you that some phones work perfectly, and that mine is luckily one of them. I have the leaked Gingerbread Update, and all the cameras work AND the voice mail notification works. I apparently got the only working phone.

I have yet to see Android come out with a new operating system no matter what carrier I had that wasn't screwed up in some way. This is why I went to the iPhone. Honestly I have ZERO issues with updates on the iphone.

No one is perfect.... Remember iOS4 do you remember how easy it was to jailbreak. That was because iOS4 left a huge hole in the PDF file area.

"The issues addressed in the updates include the aforementioned PDF problem within Apple’s CoreGraphics framework, which exploits FreeType’s TrueType and Type 1 fonts to execute malicious code, and a conversion problem within the IOMobileFrameBuffer framework, which could allow code to inadvertently gain system privileges by posing as the user. The PDF-related exploits were also being used in the latest jailbreak method for iOS devices, a process that could be accomplished via the jailbreakme.com website."

We all have issues.. Its really matters on how long it takes these issues to be resolved and apple does a good job of that........everyone else..... well, will see. Hopefully soon.

To correct you a bit... the iPhone 4 does have an LED, and while FaceTime doesn't work over 3G, all the other video chat options do, just like on android... HOWEVER... that phone is a piece of crap. The cell reception sucks, bluetooth profiles supported on android aren't supported on iPhone, bluetooth calling sounds horrendous, and sooooo many features of android still won't come in iOS5. The iPhone is NOT a smartphone. It lacks a major feature every other smartphone on the planet has... being able to download from a browser. This was a huge setback. There is no real file manager, so you can't download files to a location, and open them. The only way you get pdf's is if someone emails it to you. The notifications in iOS4 were awful. I constantly missed notifications because they flash on the screen once and then never come back. When an app has a notification number (ie. words with friends moves), they don't update unless you use the device itself, so for me, they were constantly wrong. I had an iPhone for 3 weeks and couldn't stand it (and I was jailbroken).

Wow, almost all of my friends have one, and I've used them, and I've never seen a LED light. lol I feel stupid now.

Don't feel stupid. iPhone 4 does not have a LED notification light.

It seems that the iOS 5 developer preview beta released into the wild last night allows for users to set up LED notifications for calls and messages using the iPhone 4?s camera flash.

Dang! I knew this would turn into a IP4/Android contest. Prolly better to just drop it now.

I really wish they would re release gingerbread so my wife can download it. Pretty annoying that one of us got it and not the other. The battery life is amazing now!

More to the point, I thought it was an insider (developer) who leaks the factory ROM builds (has to be). Why the heck didn't he TELL the project manager that the VM Notification was broken???? Unbelievable. I mean, it's not Rocket Science!

Why does it seem every time you (Frank) make a comment, its condensing toward everyone else.. Why do you think your all high & mighty.. Not everyone is as perfect as you.. Sure there are people that might not know what you know, like myself.. I would never pray for Vz visual vm, but I also don't like the google one either, I doing use any of those.. But maybe some do, to each their own.. If I was to choose between the two I would pay the $2.99 a month to have ONE phone# instead of dealing with two. Also instead of being condensing & all high & mighty, why don't you tell the ones who don't know about the options they have without being an as about it.. Its that simple..v

I don't think Frank is condescending. He's been very helpful around here. If you're just using Google Voice for visual voicemail, the 2nd number is invisible to everyone. Not a big deal at all. If you're using the 2nd number for free texting, that's another story.

Thanks, Robrecht

That makes sense if it was being 'leaked' with management's approval (which many of us assumed), and that would be smart, but I'm less sure of that now. That was the point I was trying to make.

Thanks, Robrecht

I can assure you (sort of :) ) that it was not leaked with "managements approval". Not at the high levels, at least. I know that many people believe in a conspiracy theory of management approved leaks to get beta style feedback. I don't. Certainly though, there is probably at least one HTC developer on the various "rooting" teams. I believe there were HTC developers who knew this, before the OTA, and kept it quiet from the project manager. That was my point. And how VZW missed it blows me away. I thought they at least tested basic phone functions like calling/receiving calls and voicemail. Sheesh!

Anyhow, it's done now. Most people who have the premature update have found workarounds or other products for voicemail notifications. Hopefully a new OTA will appear soon.

If the leaks are not authorized, I can understand if the leaker did not want to draw attention to problems users of the leaked software were experiencing. Why draw attention to the leak if you are an unauthorized leaker?

It is not an issue for me at all since I use Google Voice. But I find it interesting that these leaks are probably not authorized as I think they should be or at least should be followed by HTC for their beta testing value.

Thanks, Robrecht

While I would like to think HTC follows the forums I haven't seen them post..... I might have missed it. On the other hand I have seen a response to one my posts from what looked like an official VZW CS account. Who ever used it either failed to read my post or they failed to comprehend it. Either way it came off sounding condescending. From profile I found its rarely used to post. Not sure what the account is for as it is not really being used to help customers. No need to have an account to watch topics in forums. There are plenty of forum members that work for VZW who are very helpful with their posts. To all of those "Thank you". It's a shame VZW higher ups seem blind to what we knew was going on. I can understand the leaker being afraid of raising issue with management. That still leaves at a minimum the "official" account.... So was management unapproachable or did they chose not to act. May be forums are beyond their corporate cultures understanding.

I'm sorry you feel that way. And I apologize to anyone who feels they have been "condescended upon" by me. :) . Seriously, that is not my intent. I'll proofread better.

I don't know who vzw hires to man phones but their lack of grasp of basic phone functions is below the general public imo. I had a rep "test" vm notification ina phone with gb and she couldn't get (nor could i explain that it was a missed call notification NOT a vm notification. Hire any random college kid with no training at all and she would do better.
