Verizon- pie update?

True if it's too much of a process then I would wait, for me I'm so use to flashing that I get my phones up and running in about 20 to 25 minutes as I will finally stay on the unlocked version when first availability of pie on it .
With Google and Samsung back up, it makes it a breeze for me even though I back it up through smart switch I almost never use it.
I think with Samsung Backup you mostly just wind up having to re-login to some accounts, is that right?

No. The Asst assumes your phone corrupted and won't boot, the reason you put it in download mode. it then pulls the latest firmware from Verizon to Repair your phone. in this case that is ARL1.
I had never connected my phone to a PC prior to last night.

I see, Thanks! :)

If the Odin method is of concern you can get back to ARL1 by using the Verizon Samsung Update Assistant. I pushed my Verizon N9 back using this last night. Takes a lot of the work out since it downloads the firmware etc.. Works easy enough on WIN10 can't speak for Mac or anything else.
Make sure phone is communicating with PC and Assistant via USB cable. You have to give permission on phone and select System Update as USB mode before starting Asst. It will say your software version is not eligible for update - - this let's you know everything is talking. If your PC asks what to do when this USB device is plugged in select Run Verizon Asst. Unplug USB.
Then put phone in download mode, I use Power/Bixby/VolUp and then select Bootloader (option 2) rather than Power/Bixby/VolDwn -- have had better luck with comms.
Plug phone into PC, Asst should come up, select next, says your phone needs Repaired do you want to proceed.....
Asst puts ARL1 onto phone along with a full wipe so have what you want / need backed up. Mine took 15-20 min and then I reloaded backup.
Your mileage may vary.

That's like smart switch emergency recover ... does that Verizon version work on different carriers?

Link for Asst download and instruction. The Repair section toward bottom is what I used. The Update immediately said software was not eligible for update.

I'm having trouble finding the Verizon Samsung Update Assistant download Link? I found one but it says LG?

Good afternoon Mustang I'm wandering if I messed up by downloading the pie update that was the newer version not the previous one please tell me I wasn't stupid

Hmmmm......I tried to follow your instructions, but when I plug in my phone the only thing that happens is I see my SD card and Phone files. When I try to lauch Update via USB and assistant, nothing happen and the next button is not available. Any ideas?

I'm no expert by any means but I've been in this game for quite a while now and your ok. Everyone who gets Pie will be fine regardless of the version because once you have it it probably won't be too long until they come out with a minor update. Besides ask yourself are you enjoying it so far?

Do you know if this method would work after taking the official pie update or only to revert from the side loaded version?
