If the Odin method is of concern you can get back to ARL1 by using the Verizon Samsung Update Assistant. I pushed my Verizon N9 back using this last night. Takes a lot of the work out since it downloads the firmware etc.. Works easy enough on WIN10 can't speak for Mac or anything else.
Make sure phone is communicating with PC and Assistant via USB cable. You have to give permission on phone and select System Update as USB mode before starting Asst. It will say your software version is not eligible for update - - this let's you know everything is talking. If your PC asks what to do when this USB device is plugged in select Run Verizon Asst. Unplug USB.
Then put phone in download mode, I use Power/Bixby/VolUp and then select Bootloader (option 2) rather than Power/Bixby/VolDwn -- have had better luck with comms.
Plug phone into PC, Asst should come up, select next, says your phone needs Repaired do you want to proceed.....
Asst puts ARL1 onto phone along with a full wipe so have what you want / need backed up. Mine took 15-20 min and then I reloaded backup.
Your mileage may vary.
