You folks got me most of the way home on this so I wanted to offer this story.

I've been using Verizon Prepaid for over 3 years, and they keep making their offers better and better. Now I pay $45 per month for unlimited talk and txt, plus I get 3 gb of data per month included b/c I allow for auto-pay. If I run out of data, I can buy another 3 gb for $20 at anytime, and another and so on ...

I smashed my last phone: HTC Desire DNA. The new HTC 526 that I bought for $53 at Best Buy (it turns out) did NOT support simultaneous voice and data, unlike my previous DNA did. Surprise! I use my phone for work and I need this feature so that I can connect to my computer using the Hotspot while I speak on the phone. And I prefer Prepaid b/c I'm self employed and it's SUCH a good deal on the Verizon Network. The folks at the Verizon Store in Boulder, CO have continually (almost robotically) told me that Verizon Prepaid does not support simultaneous v & d and basically they didn't appear to believe me (that I had that capability on their Network with my HTC phone LAST WEEK). Frustrating. And strange.

What I learned from researching this online is that the LG G2 was 'probably' the phone that I needed to get in order to have access to simultaneous v & d as a Prepaid Customer. I bought the LG G2 new on Groupon 7/17/2016 for $90 and even though the phone came out (3) years ago, it suits me fine -- I really just need 4G + simultaneous v & d + Gmail, Amazon, etc.

I found an extremely helpful representative at a different Verizon Store and she helped get my phone set up, sim card installed etc. And once all the t's were crossed VOILA ... I (once again) have simultaneous voice and data on my Prepaid Phone with Verizon.

So, no I would say that the newer phones will not support Voice and Data simultaneously -- and this is the Company Line for V ... If you can live with the 'older' phone, then the LG G2 should work for you like it worked for me (and it seems Verizon doesn't want you to know this). But there it is.

You need an older device that has two separate paths for 1xRTT/EVDO and LTE.
