Verizon removes Skype Video from HTC Thunderbolt?

I would question anything that this article claims. Verizon never claimed at CES that the Thunderbolt, or any of its 4G devices, would do voice over 4G. Voice over 4G wasn't mention by Verizon till just recently. Also it claims that Verizon's first true 4G LTE device will be the LG Optimus 2X. The LG Optimus 2X is not coming to Verizon and the Optimus 2X is not even an LTE phone.

Word! The LG Revolution will be VZW's first phone to do VoLTE (recent news). That website is highly suspect, at best. The writer clearly has no idea what he is talking about. Although, it is strange that HTC did remove the Skype reference on its Thunderbolt page, even though Verizon still has its reference up, so... Regardless, there was the rumor that Skype will be available in the market on 2/28, so I think either the phone will have it at launch, or 4 days after (assuming 2/24 will actually be the date of release).

Are you sure he's able to do video chat using skype?
I thought Skype with Mobile video chat wasn't out yet.

Face Time, sure...but skype with video? Interesting.

Yeah 100% positive. Facetime = wifi only and skype = either wifi or 3G.

I'm the one who told him to d/l the app. I knew it does 3g vchat from an article a while back on bgr I think.

I've posted the same thing on this site many times and it seems none believes it. Skype even posted it in their official blog in December. My wife has used it multiple times since getting the iPhone on vzw 2 weeks ago. It's a great feature.

Trust me you do NOT want to have to rely on Tango. Coming from an Evo user that app is HELL on a battery.

Yeah it's absolutely great! Not here to talk about iphone, but only to talk about skype vchat.
My brother and I were in the car when he got a vchat call while in transit on hwy. We easily saw and heard the person on the other side and I asked them if they see any studdering, pixelation, anything and they said no, I see and hear you great. We were flipping between the ffc and the rear.. Very smooth and no prob whatsoever. That was all 3G. He did say video quality does improve when using wifi (we know that).

I just went to the verizonwireless.com/4g site and clicked on thunderbolt and it still shows skype as being available with it. The site had to be updated this week because if you click on the map of 4g coverage, it now shows Detroit with a dot, which only went live this week (the city proper, some suburbs have had it since December).

Thanks for the Heads Up abut Skype and the i4. My GF is getting the i4 and this was something I kept showing her on the Tbolt.

I appreciate it!!

Droid-life now reporting a Best Buy screenshot that Verizon may not have Skype at launch after all (as always, take with an extra large grain of salt):

Skype No Longer Ready for HTC Thunderbolt Launch? - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Perhaps Skype functionality was what was holding up and possibly delaying the release of this phone, but half the members of this forum (as well as several others) went nuts and demanded the release to the point of calling Verizon and opening chat sessions with Verizon reps every 5 minutes and going into stores and spamming their twitter account to ask for the same questions over and over that Verizon finally caved and said "fine, it's not finished but here you go. enjoy"

Lesson learned: Be careful what you wish for ;)

Biff is right, all those text chats with vzw reps might have made them push us the phone faster and without skype. Now all we have to do is chat again but ask not when tbolt is coming out, but to now ask if it will come with skype so that we can vchat just like on the older iphone4. ;-)

Man why can't they just say something. People know of its existence, they want it, and should know when they can get it.. It's not like we made up a phone from our imagination.

That, and I'm sure the early release of the Atrix forced their hand as well. They can't sit on this thing anymore. Ready or not, the consumers are demanding it and their competitors are releasing their products. Time to get this thing out there.

Skype was a huge selling point of this phone that they touted at major platforms like CES and MWC over and over. If it's not ready at launch, it will be pushed as an update very quickly, I'm sure

Well, and the lack of skype isn't a major issue. Yes, it would be disappointing, but it wouldn't make the phone undesirable. (especially knowing that its still coming)

Now, if it launched sans LTE that would be a whole other discussion.

+1

Well said. I'd rather have the phone early without Skype, than have to wait x amount of time for them to fix it and launch the phone with Skype

Skype for Thunderbolt

skattertech.com have a video of a leaked version of Skype for Thunderbolt on their web site. It looked very impressive, any rumors when the final version will be released??

Did anyone bother to read the date on the article? This was before the device even came out over a month ago. Since then we've already seen a leaked version that works with full functionality (including over 3g). If you're concerned about skype NOT coming to the thunderbolt: lol.
