Well, anyone who is upset that they paid for Next Day shipping and didn't get their phones early - don't be. I had the same choice, stuck with 2-Day shipping, and am getting bit by the opposite problem: Verizon utterly failed in my shipment and didn't send it out until 8/18 - with 2-day shipping. Obviously that means it won't arrive today.
Verizon customer service seems befuddled by it - can't explain why and won't even entertain the possibility of upgrading to something like a Saturday delivery. The best part is that despite being 2-Day shipping, it was shipped/picked up out of Memphis TN (FedEx main Air delivery hub) and just sat their overnight, going nowhere. FedEx literally could have thrown it on a plane and had it delivered today, but because Verizon only put 2-Day shipping on it, their system decided to deliberately hold it until a plan this weekend for delivery on Monday.
