Verizon 'significantly altering' unlimited data?

Success!

I ordered online from BB and immediately My Verizon showed that I was now under contract and still had my UDP, but did not show the new phone...makes sense, as I had yet to activate it.

Late yesterday I picked up the phone & followed the BB activation instructions (call a VZW 800 number)...but they said they could NOT activate the subsidized phone without sacrificing UDP. I said no way.

Went to a corporate store today, said I was having trouble activating, they came back in 5 with an active phone and documentation of the plan changes...nothing, save the 2-year contract. My Verizon now shows both the Z and the UDP.

This is great! Looks like I'll be following in your footsteps. Hopefully I won't have trouble activating the phone. Did you use the new Sim that came with the phone?

Yes.

Was about to check out when I noticed at the bottom in fine print
"Those customers Upgrading with a 2-Yr contract who have an Unlimited Data package will be enrolled in the Verizon 2GB Data Plan for that line for $30/month. If you complete this transaction, Unlimited Data cannot be returned to your line of service."

This has me stopped in my tracks on the best buy website... do I just ignore it and proceed? I won't lose my 49.99 UDP by selecting 2 yr contract as opposed to paying 21.83 a month for the phone? I'd rather just pay 99.99 than an additional 22 a month for the phone? Why can't this just be easy!?!

That message has been there forever. If you use one of the loopholes then you should be fine

I saw the same message and did not lose UDP... as always, YMMV.

Well I guess wish me luck. If u saw the same messages. I'll order it and have it shipped to me.
They changed the offer now they are giving away the projector for free instead of the speaker. Which is okay since I was never gonna buy the projector lol.

Well I went ahead and ordered the phone.... now the waiting game begins.

Well, it's September 2 and I still have Verizon service, so I guess I'm safe. Phew!

@yeahizme did you actually wind up losing service? Or did you leave before being able to find out?

Did you get a letter?

I left before they could disconnect my service bc I wanted to keep my # and I couldn't be more happy with my new service...with cricket I can use phones that I could never use with Verizon ...it's awesome...been with cricket now for 12 days and I have been streaming away and have used 240 GB already

I wasn't sure. I still use my parents' address for all my mail, but occasionally some of it disappears. I thought I might have gotten a letter and just never saw it, so I was waiting until yesterday to see if my service would get cut off.

R u a heavy data user?? I consider heavy over 200 Gigs a month lol

200, then no. My average is over 100 GB, but I've used over 200 GB once or twice.

Though all the reports I was reading stated people using over 100 GB would get a letter.

Well you may be on their longer list to get rid of lol, but I knew they would come after me bc I regularly used in the terabytes lol...so you might be good to go lol

I hope so. I still have unlimited on AT&T with the DirecTV plan, but I just get better coverage and usually better speeds on Verizon.

Is it true that on the unlim plan with AT&T , after a using 23 gigs, they slow speeds down?

No, you're just de-prioritized so your speeds may get slowed down, but only at times and in places of network congestion. I don't live in a crowded area, so I'm not sure I'll ever really experience throttling the way they currently handle it. Ive already used over 38GB on AT&T this month and I'm still getting full speeds.

They're like T-Mobile. Hit the limit they set and you will be throttled only if the area is congested. Once congestion clears you return to normal speed.

Oh wow...so all in all, it's a good plan for you??? How much is your bill per month, if that's not being too nosey lol....

Hmmmm.......so I guess some people who don't live in a congested area, are getting the full benefits of unlimited AT&T data

It's my parents' plan, so they pay the bulk of it and I just pay the $40 for my line.

But the plan costs $100 for the first line and $40 for each additional line with the forth line being free. DirecTV or U-Verse is required. Tethering isn't included for phones added to the plan, but for some reason is enabled for tablets. My line is a tablet plan (also $40) and I can use the hotspot on my iPad, but the SIM card doesn't work in phones.

It works out great for me. Figured it's worth an extra $40 on top of my Verizon bill to have unlimited data on the two best networks in the US and be able to hotspot on either.
